7 - Philippe Coutinho - V1

80mil is too much of a loss imo.. thats half his fee. 100mil would be fair given the market

Yeah 100m is the ideal price. But we suck at selling so i'm not very hopeful. Plus with FFP i'm not very hopeful any club would fuck up their transfer budget on a luxury player like Coutinho.

It’s too bad we don’t play a style to suit him. He clearly needs to get his confidence back. Unfortunately its going to be very hard for him to get a starting spot now that Dembele is crucial to our team. If a decent offer came in I would take it and run.

Who would realistically sign him though?? PSG maybe? Why would they want him? He normally occupies a lot of the same spaces as Neymar. I just don’t see there being a big market for him.

What we seeing with Coutinho is basically what he was during his tenure at Liverpool when he couldn’t get his longshots going. I thought when we bought him, due to not having much of the pressure on him, he’d improve. But that clearly doesn’t seem to be the case.

We have the worst fans in world football..

I just don't see what the alternative is. Are we supposed to bench Dembele who is our 2nd best offensive weapon? Are we going to drop Arthur for Coutinho, despite him looking like the absolute most important player in our midfield? I wouldn't even drop Vidal for him because he is way more well rounded and we need a support system in midfield for Busquets and the defense. Lest we forget that Rakitic is in the mix due to EV and it's not even realistic to think of a lineup without him surely featuring. So it's between Arthur/Vidal/Coutinho for 1 spot.

Or even worse, are we gonna go back to the extremely static and lifeless 4-4-2 just to incorporate him?? Hell no, in my opinion. He is nowhere near worth that level of team restructuring just to fit him into a role that he hasn't even looked consistent in. He was hardly ever truly consistent at Liverpool ffs, let alone here where he fits worse.

So I guess the ideal function for him is our first offensive/midfield sub off the bench ahead of Vidal? That's what we spent 150 million euros for?

I'd much rather sell him now and reallocate the money to other key areas in the squad. Namely getting a young striker, a LB, and a CB. Coutinho is just not a good fit at Barca in any kind of starting role and he's surely capable of playing way better elsewhere in a system that could use him. We could get great money out of it and move on.

After seeing the likes of Cesc fail here thoroughly, why should we feel the need to disrupt the system and waste multiple seasons to conclude a redundancy we already knew was going to end in disappointment? Unless you genuinely feel that Coutinho has some right to a starting role ahead of Dembele/Arthur/Vidal and FDJ in the future, which I would massively disagree with.

James, Ozil, Mata, Coutinho
It's not coincident they're all struggling in their team. They're all no pace, weak in physique, less contribution in defense and not press resistant.

Our board thought Coutinho can succeed Iniesta showing their naivety.

Coutinho has decent burst, see recent runs with clear chances. His interchange with messi andnsuarez has been improving, been making the right passes more and more.

Coutinho for liverpool was one of the best in the world at out of the box goals. He was considered as a great unpacker vs a parked bus. He showed some of this last year for barca and for brazil. This year has been a mess in confidence, inexplicable but i think his teammates know he is trying and getting close. As long as he stops the cheap giveaways--fewer the last league games and keeps passing with messi and suarez, he is doing ok. Outside of messi every great player goes through slumps and runs of poor form.

He is trying and getting close, doing OK? The guy is the third most expensive player in history. Its just odd seeing how people think we should expect so little from such players while attacking far, far cheaper backup players who gets hardly any chances or consistent run of games.

People who said how it is getting called haters and worst fan base bla bla bla. We better all suck his cock and don't mind about the results. Like a true legit fanbase we can all cry within a few weeks when we blow cl again. We always can buy another +140mil player like coutinho and give him time to adapt before he is over his prime, not?

So, his form and confidence is at the lowest point it can be. There is still some time left to get him back in form before the crucial top games. Hope the club and players talks a lot with him because there must be a reason why his performance off the last months are so poor. Hope is all we have, Coutinho is a topplayer, no doubt about it so he must be capable of fixing this issue. If not, than some though decisions need to be made. I'm thinking about tactics, formations, possible sell etc. Because when you buy a 160mil player you need to make it work, you can't do nothing and wait until it magically work again.
