8 - Pedri

Overrated to what extent? On this forum?

Because in the past 12 months he has been starting midfielder at Barcelona, Spain and now Spain Olympic.

LE had him ahead of Thiago, Fabian Ruiz which is impressive

I think he is overrated by fans in general. The classic "he is 18 and plays like that, just IMAGINE what he'll do when he's 25"
He is also overrated by Koeman. In the EC he found a nice role and played very well in a well balanced midfield. Thiago is much superior to me, but that's not how you pick a good team... Of course a player that's starting for Barcelona and Spain A will play in the olympics team too, just based on that...

Silva is a nice comparison tbh. I don't remember him from Eibar or Celta when he was 18/19, but he at least played full seasons at that age, and was instantly a starter for a very good Valencia when he arrived at 20. I think there are a few similarities in style, and comparing stats between them gives somewhat similar numbers:

He is not overrated in general. He's one of the hottest young midfielders around. That's real according with his progress in the last 1-2 years. Wether or not he will develop even more is anyone's guess.

At the moment he is definitely class but we should wait and see how he will develop, isco is a good example i remember when people called him the spanish malaga messi and yeah now his dog is more messi than him (his dog's name is messi).

This.
I think Pedri is more discipline and ambition than Isco. He is ready to improve whatever he is not good at. Isco with all his gifted, think he likes his technique so much that he doesn't improve anything else.

And Pedri overrated??? Lol. Dude has worked hard for nearly 70 matches to get some praises he deserves.
He is actually underrated as there are still some dumb people try to insult him by comparing bum like Puig to him.

Haha I had a feeling you’d mention Puig.

I have faith in him but it should be obvious that he's a bit overrated at the moment.

There were many games this last season in which our midfield looked meagre and it seemed like it hasn't dawned for some people on here that Pedri was part of the midfield. So what those people would probably do is isolate what he actually did in those games and rightly claim that his passing was solid and reliable. But at some point you have to look at our midfield being too passive offensively and too thin defensively and ask yourselves if there might not be something that Pedri doesn't do.

but as i said, i have faith that he will learn to take on more responsibility cuz there were too many occasions last year of Frenkie being the one to dare make the real difference while Pedri passed it sideways and jogged around looking tired.

i think being integrated too fast in the starting eleven obscured this switch of mentality that young player has to go through, from being responsible of his own actions to being resposible for the team winning the game.

You are right. Even at Olympic he also doesn't try to do things he did in Euro which is understandable (he is exhausted and not 100% fit). Look at Euro (when he was healthier), he made most carries into final third.

He is not overrated at all. If he doesn't do anything yet still gets these praises then he is. But he has to work hard and he deserves all (including golden boy award which he is likely to win, confirmed by the magazine).

Funny that Pedri is 18 but people act as if he is 28 while Frankie is 24 but is considered as if he is 18 (still call him a youngster).

I'm not even sure how Pedri is even being called overrated.

The vast sane majority considers Pedri as one of best young midfielders in the world, which he absolutely deserves.

Don't think anyone is calling Pedri as one of the best midfielders in the world as of right now (that title belongs to Puig to some user :koeman:)

Pedri is clearly one of the best midfielders in the world - he played very well for the best team of the Euros and got into the team of the tournament.
