8 - Pedri

I don't mind that he doesn't realease that quickly all the time, because imo one of his best traits is vertical carries on the ball. He always looks for an opening to take the ball and eat up grounds. Imo he is always testing to see if there's an opportunity to drive forward. Our offensive players love this. Sometimes it would be better to release quickly to a teammate than drive with the ball himself. He doesn't always get this right.

FDJ was brilliant under Xavi in that league win season.

Xavi absolutely loved him.
During Xavi's league winning season there were multiple games where we were absolutely pinned to our goal and the only one managing to progress the ball and provide exit routes was FDJ. One of the games against Madrid comes to mind, where we ended with 30 something possession%. At that time Frenkie was providing crucial quality.

That was one of the reasons why his conservative style was effective, Frenkie was great at helping the team keep possession.

Its a more risky style but can pay big dividends if you can attract attention and distract opposing defenders.

That was probably the away game in cup as won 1-0 in Bernabeu in a defensive set up.

FDJ was best player on park along with couple defenders.

He was then injured for second leg at home game and Gavi played his position.. ran about like a lunatic as Barca lost 4-0 at home and they countered Gavi and Busi with absolute ease.

Yeah, it is, especially if he ends up vacating his position and loses the ball. That's why he has to make sure he engages in those runs when the situation is right and he doesn't fuck up the pass.

He is starting to get the balance right now with Pedri fully fit next to him.

Clearly Flick is giving him license not to be pinned to DM though.

If he goes forward with it then others have to react and cover that.. he cant be doing it if Pedri has gone but there are times when on and needs to get forward with it.

Obviously he cant go forward and lose in bad place but Pedri and FDJ are much more fluid together and not FDJ pinned to DM.

No, and the high line helps because often Cubarsi or Inigo could be close enough to push forward and step in midfield if there's a bad exposure there. Considering that many times they are marking a lone 9.

'No'?

What are you saying 'no' to?

Clear as day FDJ is getting more freedom on ball than a pinned DM.

As is no, he can't go forward and lose the ball, but it happens rarely for him to lose the ball stupidly. Usually when he goes forward the ball is released in time to Lamine or Raphinha.

Yeah him and Pedri are both starting to have more freedom and playing off one another.

Its risky.. but thats Flicks approach all over park.

Very much idea of overwelming teams and wearing them down.

Yeah, at this point, we should go all the way with that, pushing it to the max. Just attack with rage. I have a feeling these highly rated defensive sides aren't that great defensively when put under a lot of pressure. Even Inter, 0-3 vs Fiorentina and 4-4 vs Juventus this season... they can be got at.

The attack doesn't show any signs of slowing down in terms of production outputs, so just go full on come what may.

Bayern will be tough if get through as they can compete in midfield and have pace up top..but their defence can be got at.

The difference v them last time was the front three but it can become a crap shoot of who has the more ruthless attackers.. but have to go for it.

Pedri: "Three players I like to watch? I really admire Frenkie of Young. I love his style of play... Iniesta, I have always followed him... And Messi, but it's impossible to recreate what he does."

Pedri knows football.

Must love spins and passing backwards according the to usuals!
