8 - Pedri

They would be pretty similar on FM as they are both attacking creative players. Doesn't mean anything other than that.

It means that FM attribute makers see them as pretty similar. Iniesta is looking very different, as does most attacking creative players who are not as similar.

FM stats are done by a myriad of different people and the stats are often conjured out of one's ass that do not reflect a player's strength and weaknesses in real life, it is especially the case with younger players. You are continually discrediting yourself with these ridiculous takes.

Pedri is not even close to one of the top dribblers in this Barca side this season so far. Him twisting out of some tight situations is completely different from likes of Di Maria who pick ball up and run with pace at opposition.

Clever link up play, work rate, touch, interceptions are what he has excelled at and is completely different payer from Di Maria who runs with pace and plays more of an all or nothing style.

The comparison is naive at best.

I know about how their attributes are put in. They do a pretty good job, but of course younger players are harder to do correctly. If they made a mistake with Pedri, it's similar to what I would've done. Let's see how it looks next year.
I dare someone to find someone MORE similar in his attributes to Pedri than Di Maria. Iniesta never looked anything like Pedris attributes in FM, nor in real life.

If Pedri tried playing like di Maria, we'd talk about him as a failure with some talent. Bit like Trincao. Not as one of the most talented 17/18 years olds we've seen.

Pedri seriously lacks pace to come close to doing what di Maria does. Has some other standout traits, though.

I just remembered that di Maria actually played a brilliant season as a midfielder in Madrid, didnt he? thats the closest you get to him being similar to Pedri, him also being a midfielder.

I obviously meant when he played as a 'central winger', it wasn't only in Madrid.

If you want to compare him to any player, then I think he is closest to David Silva. Their positions and play style are similar.

I like the comparisons to Riquelme, Silva, Hleb. Much more than Iniesta.
Silva and Riquelme are two of my favourites, I think Pedri is so far much more alike Riquelme than he is to Silva, and out of the three, I think Silva is the only one who can really work great in a 4-1-2-3 (especially in his later years). Riquelme was a 10 and Hleb was a winger and a much worse player than Pedri, as said.

I don't like 4-2-3-1, and I'm not sold on either Pedri or FDJ in a 4-1-2-3 (even more when they both play at the same time), but the current midfield setup in todays game is still very good compared to many alternatives.
