8 - Pedri

Xavi's defence splitting passes, highly creative and out of box solutions contributed a great deal to his game. Big difference between him and other known so-called controlers.

After watching the pass again after posting, I half take my earlier post back. It was a very well timed pass, not really as obvious as I put it earlier. Quite a small space, and he was maybe aware of the pass before the run was made?
But I also watched the 2-0 goal at the same time though, and must say that was a much more brilliant pass, I hope you can see that?

I think Xavi never made so many creative passes. He saw a lot, but always disregarded the more speculative solutions. I think one of his best assists was to Pedro in 2011 final. That really showed his greatness.
Almost all Xavi passes I could pick out myself on the TV screen before they were made - not the case with Messi, Iniesta or Busquets, or even Puig sometimes.

Yes I watched every game more or less.
Xavi was very predictable, maybe I grew so used to his choices that they never surprised me. Of course there is nothing harder than playing easy football, as they say, and is evident by watching Barcelona since Xavi left.
I must agree this particular pass was very Xavi-esque, even though I think this was on the tight side for Xavi to typically attempt tbh

edit: and if you compare Pedri to Xavi, you also see before 5-1 a pass which Xavi would NEVER make. I think it was both a technical and a timing/vision issue there.

Xavi never made creative passes??? Good lord!!
20 assists in one season, 124 chance created in 2008/09 Laliga???
30 chance created in 2010 world cup (the second most after Cruyff)??? 20 through ball played in 2010 world cup???

Watch his assist vs Arsenal in 2010, vs Real Madrid in 2009. Your Puig will never have a chance to compare with that.

This is how a master played. Look at his pass. 25 chance created at Euro 2012.
It will take Puig 100 years of non stop learning to compare to his predecessor.

Prime Barcelona would dominate this game
Sevilla is in good form, but come on, they are nowhere near good enough to be a problem for prime Barcelona.

Change Pedri and De Jong (two of our best players atm according to this forum?) for Xavi and Iniesta and you would see 70/30 possession

Aaye, but we must put some perspective. What if we changed Pedri and De Jong for a 18 year old Iniesta and 23 year old Xavi.

Good point. Our young players have tremendous potential. Whether or not they will continue to develop, and become world-class is to be seen. De Jong is world class already, Pedri is quickly on his way to be that. Puig has all the main tools as well.

Xavi predictable? Xavi never made creative passes? Now I have seen it all.

Xavi had great throughballs, except for Spain 2010, then he, and everybody else on the team, decided to become sidepass merchants.
Guess people are still haunted by that tournament.

Xavi was the player who created the most chances and most 'through balls' at that World Cup. You just making shit up to try the 'Barca'Spain were boring' angle?

Why would anyone be 'haunted' by that WC?
