100 goals at the age of 34-37 for the club.... that's still a tractor according to many here. Do you know what makes tractors different from Porsches, Lincolns and other luxury brands? That tractors always do the hardest work, often the work doesn't look the prettiest, but it's done...

Controversial Opinion but if RL9 was there with Messi and EV, Barca win the CL that season.

Messi would easily spot the subtle runs RL9 makes(which only a genius like Muller could spot) and they'd destroy Europe together.

I haven't watched of Lewy much from 2017 - 2019 so can't say for sure.

Suarez and Messi together was a big problem in the CL though during that time period, especially in the 19/20 season

Definitely very possible. It's a shame they never played together.

Suppose you could say they'd take each others' space and have to share the goals about, but the thing is Messi can defer to him as the creator. Messi never had any problem doing that.

It's just his all-round game that people question, and if the goals compensate for the poor all-round play he has undeniably displayed at times. Like they do with Haaland at Man City (though obviously Lewy is way better footballer than him in general).

it's not that people don't rate him - they're just questioning the balance between his goalscoring and the lower work rate due to being older, and some of the poor touches and passing in general play.

I think that is a balanced way to think. I myself do that with many players, not jus him.

Definitely wouldn't. Would fit perfectly. Messi has zero problems creating chemistry with conventional strikers. It's only a problem with similar players like Dybala.
Yeah I went on to say that too. I guess I am just thinking the worst-case scenario.

Lewy couldn't play with Cristiano Ronaldo or Haaland, but he could play with Messi.

Not a controversial opinion.

Lewa's peak was around that time, and Suarez had already declined (post 2016).

I agree with you, I also see how sometimes he just doesn't do well, he needs to be changed. But I look at him primarily through the prism of his age. If he had such poor matches 7-10 years ago, then of course we could complain. But here - let's look at it from a different perspective, which big club has a 36-37 year old player with such numbers. Mbappe was supposed to be the undisputed top scorer this season, so far it doesn't look like it... :)

Yeah true, think you make good points.

What you should know about me (and what others here likely know) is I am the opposite of a guy who is deeply into stats - I go for eye test mostly and am very big on the idea that some players (Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland) actually make the team worse functionally while scoring a bucket load of goals. It's obviously not as black and white as that, and my thinking can be too flawed and dogmatic.

However, I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle, and that is fair. Lewy is an undeniable asset to Barca with his goals, but there are times that (hypothetically speaking) other chances or goals could be created if he took a better touch or played a better pass. It's not that he's terrible at it, just hit and miss.

He's a world better as an all-round footballer than Haaland though, even at his age.

When people call him a tractor, I think that is a provocative way of saying what i am saying. They don't think he's useless - they are just questioning the qualitative/quantitative balance. Overall though I concur with you that he's a good thing in the team.
