9 - Robert Lewandowski

He scored many goals simply because of crazy system Flick has where everyone (except for him), presses and runs and out of that storm create many chances.

We're basically playing with man less once he gets tired. And now half the team is tired too and wheels are falling off.

Wrote this after Las Palmas and proven right instantly. The pressing creates storm from which he scores plenty. Even Ferran and Pau score. Any CF would get plenty of goals easily if press works.

Didn't miss him one bit. Just play players who do their running and we're fine

I only missed his finishing today honestly

We could've finished this off in first half if he was in place of Torres for some of those chances.

But in general it's good to know we can play without him. Getting more rest like this should be considered more often.

Issue is many of those chances wouldn't be created in the first place because the press (which precedes many of those attacks) doesn't work that well with him on the pitch.

Think anyone sees that. I do agree he is better finisher than Ferran or Pau. But that's not saying much really. We don't have a proper backup striker.

It took awhile for BVB and then Bayern to find an adequate replacement. Not until Haaland and Kane, were they up to their previous attacking strength.

One could argue that because Lewandowski did not play, Mallorca was disoriented with their defensive plan, and other forwards had free rein. Therefore, it could be quite beneficial not to always have him as a starter and let him on the pitch when things go awray.

I don't love the prospect of him staying next season and us paying him 25M for it - but we're stuck with him for next season, so we need to calm the fuck down. Let's be stoic about it, we can't change the fact. BUT, he's still doing better than Greasman and Coutinho combined - even if we buy a striker next summer Lewa will still be important to us and our campaign, he's been doing more than ok.

Another masterful negotiation win by Barca sporting directors.

Watching players like Isak who is well rounded versus the Ursus we have... Can't help but wonder.

I don't disagree with you, but that's how contracts work if you want to sign a player who is both WC (or was) and marketable. I still think it was a fuckup paying 50M for a 32 year old player, almost all that age are "free". We hoped he would give us success overall, but he wasn't Messi and none other than Messi is Messi. But we still hoped he could make a difference, but overall our team wasn't good enough - just like Messi wouldn't flourish without Busi, Iniesta, Alves, Suarez or even Alba. 2024 and we don't have one single player reaching the level of Busi, Iniesta, Alves, Suarez or Alba - we can't expect Lewa to pull us together like Messi, the best player to ever play the game, did.
Lewa has one more season on his contract and he's basing in goals. It doesn't stand or fall with him... sign another striker and let Lewa be backup, we're cool anyhow. Lewa will still score goals any time he plays. He isn't the one we should focus on to make or break it.
