9 - Robert Lewandowski

Two, not very spectacular but important goals, setting the match into the inevitable win.
Robert Lewandowski did a good job.

For shits and giggles, we could argue, that it takes Lewandowski's genius not to step out the defenders' line and that those tap ins are also piece of art (or not...🤔) So, for example, had it been there, instead of Lewa, say, someone like Benzema or Morata, would they be able to find themselves also where Lewandowski was to do those tap ins too...maybe not, but maybe...they would have found themselves somewhere else, or done something else that Lewa wouldn't or couldn't, something equally contributable to the win.

The theory is that it would be some luck for someone else but for Lewa it was his skill and expertise of positioning and ... as someone eloquently put it, awareness.
Just watched the highlights.

The second one is indeed great positioning as he gambles at the back post on Kounde's cross coming all the way through. Agree.

First one he does well to get into a dangerous position, but he gets a huge element of luck in the ball coming straight back to him off the post, lol. Still, if he wouldn't have moved there he wouldn't have had the chance, fortunate as the rebound to him was off the post. And it was very fast reaction/reflexes to finish it so quickly, like that Ronaldo goal for Portugal the other week.

So , we could effectively argue that in the first one, he had a good 'muscle' reaction and reflex that someone else might be lacking and the second was about his foxy intuition, which is Mother Nature given, not necessarily available to someone else.
I can buy it, why not? đź‘Ť I am a Lewa critic but also his fan.

Yes exactly, that is what I was implying - great reflexes for first, and great awareness and movement for second.

They wouldn't. This is trademark Lewandowski to do this over and over again.
I remember at Bayern he would do this regularily the defenders always called for offside but he never was.

The only striker that could match him right now is Haaland, and that says a lot.

Having said that, Morata or Benzema are effective in different ways and have their own way of scoring. It comes down to fine details which we won't get into.

First Lewandowski goal - every defender thought hes on offside, because he was already behind the offside line after ball bounce to him from the post. Offside vibe is confusing because everyone see post bounce after shoot as a "moment of pass" but real moment of pass is moment of Raphinha shoot.

Lewandowski was aware of that. He was running without being careful about being offside EXACTLY after Raphinha shoot to make his position free and way better "just in case" like he often does.

And luckily, that was the case :)

True but the point is about their instincts generally, not just one game. Morata(and most strikers) tends to roam offside while Lewandowski avoids offsides even after losing his pace at 36. It's an art.
He's been top 10 in Liga for most offsides during both his full seasons at Barca.

Curiously looked at his last season at Bayern, he was top 5 for most offsides in Bundesliga.

This season a big improvement as he's 25th in the list. Same amount as Kounde lol. Perhaps it has more to do with the system than the player itself.

That doesn't say much.

It's like saying Ronaldo and Lewandowski have missed the most big chances in Europe so they aren't great goalscorers.

It's all about the volume. Lewandowski makes the most dangerous runs in the final third which is why he'll always be up there in these statistics. It is about how often he's able to beat the defensive line and time his runs.

Like I said, the best goalscorers often top the list for most chances missed. It's a volume game. One of his best qualities.

But Messi was rarely in those most chances missed list :messi:

He also has more minutes than many players in front of him in those lists which is in favour of Lewy.

But you said it in a way that made him seem allergic to offsides and never is caught. Of course he's a WC CF with great movement who cannot be compared to offside merchants like Morata. I wouldn't say his stats are that astounding though, they are good without the need to overstate, which usually is the case with his fanboys "Lewy GOAT this, Lewy GOAT that".

The bigger your reputation is, the more criticism and glazing you recieve.

Messi playing a nice assist will get 10 times more hype than Odegaard playing the same pass. Similarly, Messi will recieve way more criticism for ghosting in a game than an Odegaard would.

Part and parcel of success and fame.

So you admit you glaze and hype the stuff that Lewy does an extra amount just because he has a high reputation in your eyes.
