9 - Robert Lewandowski

In flick system there is more need for an aggressive 9 who presses hard than a poacher like a Lewa. I would sacrifice his goals for a 9 like that with fewer goals.

He's a bit like CR7 at Man Utd on his return.
Cannot really press or move much after a few games. Looks stiff on the ball. Need a few chances to score.

If he scores then he has an acceptable or good game, but if he doesn't he's quite useless. Even if the plan is for him to stay another year they need to see if they can find a replacement this summer. At the very least sign a backup who's actually good and we can start without worrying versus sides like this.

This is a 36 years old Lewandowski we're talking about. Doesn't matter how fit he looks according to some of the guys here who talk about him like they want to fuck him.

He's old. He cannot press like he used to. He cannot run like he ran under Flick 4-5 years ago. If you're going to play him in a system that requires a lot from you physically you need to rest him like every third game.

True, that's right, he is not the type of player who can create a goal on his own; he doesn't have the qualities for it.
Once upon a time, he had it too, when he had more pace and strength. But lets face it, his playing for the treble pretender, at 36, has rarely been witnessed before.

Different positions but still, Real still has Modric, sir Alex' Man U. had Giggs older than Lewa is now, Juve had Del Piero, Bayern had Ribbery and Robben at the similar age, but none of them were expected to be exploited 100% game in and game out.
They had their subs, or they had the role of subs too.

In Lewandowski's entire career, it was only Pep, who did not put Lewandowski in the 1st eleven every single game, and he was in his prime. Lewandowski did not like it but he said himself that under Pep, not Klopp who he values highly too, he developed the most.

How come this club did not procure another #9 to give Lewa some rest or competition is a question to ask, instead of bashing the guy who could have easily retired with glory and fame.

As a matter of fact, under Klopp and Pep, on those rare occasions when Lewandowski started on the bench, he was often a game changer in 2nd halves...why not do this here, with Ferran or Ansu Fatti at hand?

Yeah, he is a fitness freak but at 36 it's impossible not to feel it in your legs when you played 90 minutes, you need then 4-5 days to recover 100%.
And yes, Wolfsburg game says hi, came at 0-1 at ht and ended with 5 goals 🤣🔥

He scored many goals simply because of crazy system Flick has where everyone (except for him), presses and runs and out of that storm create many chances.

We're basically playing with man less once he gets tired. And now half the team is tired too and wheels are falling off.

Probably because we have Ferran or Ansu Fati at hand. An exhausted 45 year old tractor doesn't look that bad in comparison.

He's playing too often lately.

Should have kept him on the bench and start him in the second half if Flick really wanted Lewa to play today , for whatever reason.

He won't cover all the times his bad games with goals.

Have no idea what's in Flick's mind , it's Las Palmas ffs , they were close to relegation zone before this game.

He should have been rested for the away game vs Mallorca , much more difficult game and they're on the 5th spot atm.
