YEs.
I understand their rage, but why against a Messi-less Barca?
Save it for a knock-out thrashing of QSG

Possibly because it's the first big team they face after this or because they still associate him with Barca

But anyway I doubt muller plays in a meaningless game, and Kiev will come out with a draw vs benfica hopefully so that match is meaningless anyway

There?s always a different excuse for Barca not being good enough in CL. If the fatigue from a few extra domestic matches is so impactful in CL, then we shouldn?t have taken the Copa del Rey so seriously every year.

Using tiredness as an excuse when constantly starting key players in an irrelevant domestic cup doesn?t cut it for me.
Barca is just crap there is no excuse needed

Not like Bayern would take it easy versus us anyway

The odds are stacked against us no matter what. That shambolic performance away in Portugal most likely cost us a further qualification. Will be happy if the team competes because that's what we can wish for. To compete.

Quite pathetic for Mueller to say that but, it is Thomas Mueller after all ladies and gentlemen, it is him being himself, that punchable face.

In the past I have complained about Bundesliga having less games to play and having that month-long winter break, but it is what it is, it works both ways, can both help them (having a rest, nurturing injuries etc.) and hurt them (if they were on a good momentum before the break etc.) I suppose. I don?t think it was designed or intended to give Buli teams a boost in European competitions. Also, playing four less league games itself doesn?t make them a shitty league though.

La Liga teams played more games from CdR alone in the past because of the two-game format, even with the rotations in earlier rounds. But nowadays, less games with the changed format. The EPL teams definitely play more games because of those crappy cup games they have.

Benfica had to play against full strength Bayern in both matches. If anything, it would be unfair to them if Bayern played a reserve team in the last match. Koeman is the one who should be getting the blame instead.

He is the most punchable of people, but to be fair, he did add in the end:
"With Lionel Messi the award was given to probably the best individual player that football has ever produced, so congratulations to Lionel for winning the Ballon D'Or. Even though I think Robert Lewandowski deserved it more this time."

That was a lot more appreciative of Messi than anything he's said before.

The whole post didn't sound as bad as the snippet of quote makes it sound (still bad, but not as horrible).

I actually didn?t get offended by his remarks with regard to Messi, I didn?t think of Messi at all, I thought it was ridiculous of him to bring us into the picture by directing his displeasure of Lewa losing out of Messi at us. Proving German football is capable by beating us? WTH.

I genuinely didn't read it that way. He was prefacing this by talking about how the Bundesliga needs more international success for it to get the recognition it deserves (blah blah, he's been repeating this along with all Bayern people for years). Then said this should be motivation to get the Champions League title back to Munich and (in doing so) show what German football is capable of. Then: "The next opportunity for that will be on Wednesday for our Champion's League match against Barcelona." But this reads way more as just "it's the next step on the way to win the CL this season", not more. The rest is just coincidence IMO, and I am giving M?ller the biggest un-benefit of the doubt here.

He posted all this on his LinkedIn btw, which is quite cringe-worthy and ridiculous in its own regard.

Thanks for providing the background information and the nuances. I still think he didn't have to use this (Lewa losing out to Messi) for the cause of German football and elevate it so much into a motivational speech. The world already knows what German football has to offer and what Bayern can do, Mueller can give it a rest.
