Yes it certainly was not his best! Peraps the new challenge of Calacio has reinvigorated and removitivated him.

although 30 la liga goals might suggest dfferent?

It was a good season for him but the amount of missed chances in that season was huge, he practically missed like 5 chances a game.

For goodness sake. Every striker misses 1 on 1 opportunites. But Villa this season has missed A LOT! Any Barca fan can see that! I don't remember him doing the same at Valencia!

First off, easy on the exclamation marks. And yes he's missed a lot of one on ones, as did Eto'o in his last season...in fact, Eto'o missed even more. And Villa's overall play is marginally better. Your point?

ben arfa, you are such an eto'o fanboy. give it a rest.

Also, it's villas first season at this club, and I am more than happy with how he has integrated into the club.

Look if you disagree with me, you disagree with me and that is fine! I can leave it at that!

I certainly do remember Eto'o missing some good chances in his final 34 goal season with us. But not as many clear cut 1 on 1's as Villa has done IMO. And that's my opinion.

And yes I'm an Eto'o fanboy! He's the best striker in the World!

As for Villa at Barca, all I'm saying that the Villa I watched at Valenica would not have missed so many cut and dried 1 on 1 situations that it has clearly become noticeable among the fans due to his previous high standards!

Villa has better control, is more creative, is able to adapt more to a team-role; Sammy is quicker (and pre-injury was even quicker still) and he works harder. Their finishing is about the same imo, both miss a lot of chances but are generally better than 99% of other strikers out there.

To put Villa's awesomeness in perspective, though: Sammy scored 130 goals in 200 games for Barcelona and 20 assists. Villa scored 129 in 212 for Valencia with 53 assists. When you consider the difference in quality of the players in their respective teams....

I'd take Villa, just. He is more level-headed and much MUCH more suited to playing second fiddle to Messi/not being the centre forward for Barcelona.

But the guy had been playing for Valencia for 4 years and for Barcelona half a season. It's soon to judge his performance.

I don't think you quite understand the point we're making. Eto'o was second fiddle in terms of importance to Ronaldinho but was still the primary goalscorer and central striker. Ronaldinho was the playmaker.

Messi is now the playmaker (in the last third of the pitch, anyway) AND the central striker and primary goal-getter. Eto'o functions far more as a predatory striker than anywhere else (although his defensive abilities can be utilised out wide).

It's not an excuse, I'm merely explaining something that you don't seem to grasp when watching the team you claim to support. Villa is not a striker in the same way that Eto'o was for Barcelona - this should be obvious for anyone that has seen Barcelona play over the last 7 years. The tactics have evolved.

How many goals did Eto'o score last season largely playing out wide to accommodate the more in form Milito? Maybe that would be a fairer comparison with Villa the inside-left of this season.

Or maybe it wouldn't since it wouldn't fit with your bizarre anti-Villa agenda.

Villa better than Eto'o ?
LOL
Eto'o was the perfect player for barca.. Quick, great dribble, clinical finishing, and as we all did see last year able to perform great defending jobs on the wings..

If Eto of this and previous season was with us, we would have won the CL last year, and probably have clear13-15 points from madrid right now..

If Villa stays like this, he will be a huge frustration (not bigger than Ibra though!!), but i hope he will adapt better as time goes by and produce more..

Comparing Eto's Barcelona career to Villa is not fair, Eto'o is already a Barcelona Legend, meanwhile Villa just started his career with Barcelona and is almost 30 years old. The chance of him coming close to Eto's achievements is very slim. not withstanding Villa is also a great player in his own right and is one of the best strikers still playing the game.I will also disagree that Villa is more technical than Eto'o, watching Eto'o at inter will prove the contrary, he has been deployed 90% of the time as a left winger and his dribbling capability displayed in seria A is vastly superior to Villa's. he has already provided 31 goals and 10 assists in all competition playing most of the time as a left winger with Inter.

Excellent Post! :worthy: ;)

I also agree with this point. I don't understand people saying Eto'o doesn't have a good first touch. I mean yes there are times when he hits the ball far out infront of him, but that is because he has the pace to blaze past the defenders. And from what I've seen at Inter the past 2 seasons, his 1st touch has improved even more! Espeically in tight intricate croweded spaces and defences.
