Adriano Correia Claro

We have a luxury problem with Adriano now, he was supposed to be backup for Alba but IMO he is clearly better in all aspects of the game. But, he is not only better when defending - he is miles better than Alba.

+1

I love how everyone forgets that Alba was one of our best players last season. Him being out of form for a few weeks doesn't make Adriano better. It certainly doesn't make him "clearly better in all aspects of the game." If he were out of form for two seasons like Alves, then people saying that would have a point.

However, I do think he shouldn't automatically get his starting spot back when he returns from injury, but have to earn it back. I think that'll help end his run of bad form ASAP and competition in the squad for spots is always nice. And I don't think it should be too hard for him to earn his spot back.

I wouldn't say miles but yeah he is not as jumpy as Alba who loves to get caught because he overlaps our attackers every single chance the ball is on the left side. Adriano is also better at defense which are two huge pluses he's got.

Adriano is more mature with his runs and keeping it balanced. He knows that he doesn't have to do the overlap run each and every time the ball is on the left hand side. And when he does it, it's a really good chance for scoring. I like Alba so much and he still can improve a lot but for the moment, Alba should be the one working hard to regain his spot. Tito gave him a soft spot in the regular XI and I think that's exactly what ruined him. I know he deserved to be the the 1st choice for the most of last season, but when the season went on, he lost it and started giving performances like the ones against Bayern and Madrid. Still can't believe that Essien out paced him in that 2-1 clasico at Bernabeu.

It's not like his drop in form late in the season was unexpected. He just came off the Euros AND the Olympics and then he was played in almost every game, even the easier ones.

Compare him to Javi Martinez who got eased in by Heynckes early in the season and repayed him by hitting his finest form when it mattered the most.

And let's not forget that the team was basically governing itself during Tito's abscence. During that period, the concentration and the intensity in the trainings were bound to drop a little bit. By the time the head coach returned the whole team already looked less fit than before which proved crucial when facing such atheltic teams as Bayern or Madrid

Absolutely disagree, Adriano, despite having played quite well in Alba's absence, remains the worst defender in the team

+1. The whole team was poorly managed last season.
