If he was still playing well, and wasn't injury prone, that would make sense. But he's been a total liability. It's more risky to play him. It's the right time to part ways. Now, he'll probably go for free next summer.

I know his flaws. But we put ourselves in a situation where we have to wait half a year for Vidal who will be able to stand in for Dani and possibly Alba too.
I am repeating myself but on paper there are 4 fullbacks. One of them is useless as harsh as that sounds. The other players that can play there are 2 CBs and maybe a CM.
That means 1st option to replace Dani or Alba in most of the games is Adriano imo.

The thing is: You think Adriano is useless, I think in our current situation he is not because our squad is not as deep as last season because Montoya is gone.

Mathieu was a LB who converted to CB. It's not like he'd be playing there improvised, same as Vermaelen. Mathieu is also better than Adriano.

Have to disagree with you Bull. Against decent and good teams , Adriano is a liability when he plays and against the weaker sides you can put there whoever you want and we could still win the game with MSN upfront and Rakitic who keeps getting better and better . The game against Valencia made me lose any expectation that I had left for Adriano (Which wasn't alot).

Adriano is a Fouling machine when put under a lot of pressure. the Valencia game was a perfect example of this, when they were going through his side he just kept fouling Valencia players.

Adriano loves to foul, is poor marking, is slow to come back, and contributes less to the attack nowadays than even Montoya did. Pre-season or not, it says a lot when a bench riding CM is able to play your position better than you. Whether we sell him or not, his role should diminish if we want to repeat the treble. The "small" games where Alba/Alves will be rested will be the ones that kill us in the long run if we can't reliably count on all of our backups and squad players.

I don’t understand why the club would even want to keep Adriano as they simply don't need him.

Left Backs - Alba, Mathieu and Vermaelen.

Right Backs - Alves, Douglas and Vidal.

They should just take Roma's money and run!

Honestly, it is time to part ways with Adriano, he's horrible, and as it has been said we have 3 players that can play LB (alba, matthieu, verm), and 3 that can play RB (alves, vidal, sergi roberto/douglas).. it's more than enough to cover until january and get someone new if they reaally feel like we need more backup.

I don't see why this is suprising. We have a transfer ban, which means that at best, we'll have the same squad as last season, but we've already seen Montoya leave. I don't find it unusual that we want to keep every player here for the time being. Regardless of who it is.
