Anyone ready to make early predictions re. Aleix and next season?

I will be bold and say he will claim the RB spot by winter and make it his.

I actually don't think so. For two reasons: Luis Enrique, and Sergi Roberto.

He's clearly on Lucho's shit list for one reason or another and that is already working against him. His competition is Roberto, who has shown an ability to rapidly adapt to new situations and could make a case that he is the best RB at the club, if given a run of games. Add on the fact that he's a Catalan La Masia grad who has stayed with the club since youth, has refused offers to leave because Lucho convinced him not to, is generally more defensively capable, fits in with the current squad much better, and didn't injure himself playing basketball(?), and Vidal's chances are looking really, really slim. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we have some transfer drama surrounding him this coming January.

It'd be nice if you're right, but I don't see it. Think Bob will get the spot.

Vidal did. Apparently, that's the reason why Lucho benched him for almost the entirety of last season.

I thought it was because of the jokes Vidal made about being on the bench in one of Pique's periscopes.

Since it seems that we won't buy a RB this summer, I will restore my faith in this guy then.

I don't have too much faith in Roberto (unlike majority of our forum).
Roberto will probably start as a RB since Lucho is angry at Vidal.

But since we don't have other options than Roberto and Vidal, and if Roberto will play as mediocre in attack as in the 2nd part of the last Season, I hope that Lucho will give another chance to Vidal.

I still rate Vidal as the better attacking power than Roberto at RB.
Roberto can play awesome from time to time, but in majority of matches he is scared and lacks courage to do anything than safe passes.

So, Vidal, if you'll get another chance, you'll need to take it this time.

We'll see how pre-season goes but I am not at all convinced about the player. He looked a poor defender every time I've seen him for Barcelona

I don't know why everyone is so surprised that Aleix hasn't made an impact. He was never a top level player. He has changed 10 clubs in the first 9 years of his senior career. 6 of those were Segunda teams. In fact, I think he himself stated that until a few years ago it was questionable whether he'd even make it as a professional player. I have nothing against the guy and I wish him all the luck in the world, and I'd be super happy to see him make a name for himself here, but let's just keep expectations realistic. To put it in very crude terms: so far Vidal's career has been closer to Douglas's level than to Alves's.

None of them is perfect.
But Roberto is jack of all trades and master of none.
He can play well everywhere (even though for some reason people tend to remember only his peak performances and for some reason forget majority of matches where he was meh on all positions), but I don't see his ceiling as too high.

Vidal (at least I hope so) has a higher ceiling and he has way more room for an improvement at Barca.

I have written before how I don't rate Halilovic, Adama and some other guys because of a too low footballing IQ.
But on the other hand, Roberto (and Samper) have a problem in the same, mental, area. These 2 guys are very smart guys, but they seem to be extremely scared on the field.

They lack balls/courage/cojones.
From time to time they can offer an insane match (Bob against RM at Bernabeu), but in majority of other matches they fall into a mediocrity and under their fears to do anything on the field.

So, we have players who are as smart as computers (Xavi, Busi, Iniesta), then some regular/average smart guy, and some dumb guys (dumb guys can't make it here).
But also, we have guys who are extremely brave, average guys and somewhat scared guys.
Imo, Roberto and Samper are 2 most scared players in our rooster currently. I don't believe that they can ever turn into a starting material if they'll be that scared.

Skills are there, IQ is there, love for the club is there.
But I don't see them as mentally strong/brave enough for Barca's/winning a CL level.

When you sum all skills, I still have more faith in Vidal (for Barca's RB level), plus Roberto started to play as a RB only 12 Months ago.

Ok, but then we have 2 very average RBs.
Since Roberto isn't a RB at all, he is scared and usually very average in majority of matches.

Roberto was red hot for the first several months as RB, and then when moved to CM/RW/DM/etc. he was consistently one of our best players, ironically enough when he wasn't playing as RB. You say we have a tendency to only remember his peak performances, but I'd say you have a tendency to ignore all good performances except the dominant ones.

I don't get it. We buy a more than decent backup for the LB spot where we have one of the best attacking LB's but we don't have a decent starting RB? Vidal is a kick and run winger without much tactical awareness or defending skills - it was a bad transfer and we should sell sell sell and buy at least a decent RB.
