I thought it were our CBs that fucked up mostly, if talking about recent match. What was so particularly bad from Vidal? What staid in my mind some pretty great tackles and fact that he is actually useful in attack as opposed to Roberto, who passes the ball back or accross the field EVERY time he gets it in semi-advanced position. Roberto is better defender, but almost useless as an attacking fullback unfortunately.

You can't just focus on one player/position, you have to look at the bigger picture and how one movement or space impacts others. Yes, the central defenders made errors but the fullbacks also failed to do their jobs which impacted them. High pressing yields results only if you are not on the same defensive page as a unit and are unable to provide an outlet. We were stagnant in most facets of the game, none perhaps was as worse as the defense (Although the midfield was strangely ineffectual as well) and punished accordingly for it.

I also think the lack of a true wingback like Dani that can overlap for the winger also puts more pressure on Messi since he has less support on that right. It increases the burden on Messi and when he shifts centrally that right side is nonexistent and defenses can shift to cheat on the opposite flank - this squeezes spaces and increases the likelihood of a turnover

I actually thought Aleix played better against Liverpool but nothing has changed my mind that he is woefully inadequate for this team

I am one of the believers that we will buy Bellerin very soon. With that in mind, playing this season with Roberto n Vidal as well as some talented rb in b team is the best option for us right now.

We did replace him. We brought Aleix when we thought Dani when leaving last season. The club is just giving Roberto a chance at RB with Aleix as backup. Nothing wrong with that. Our defense has always been our weakest link, it being just the RB position this season isnt so bad in comparison.

I have a hard time believing he was ever seen as a Dani successor, but more a rotational player. Alves was integral to our attacking game, and had the tactical nous to go with it. Neither Vidal nor Roberto have demonstrated to have the skills necessary, to replace him. Just last night, our right side looked feeble, limiting Messi's passing options.
