Yet another sad example of anglocentric nonsense...More people speak Mandarin than any other language, why aren't you asking why the players aren't speaking that?

Do you suggest they just speak Spanish to everyone?

I'm hard anglocentric as I don't even live in an English-speaking country.

You're guilty of the anlgocentric trap, regardless...The players live in Barcelona, and play in La Liga...I suggest if you're from Spain, speaking the language (And often speaking a 2nd language, Catalan for example) is normal...The French speaking players, learn Spanish...Brasilians, learn Spanish etc...You speak more than 2 languages?

What you're suggesting is illogical

They also play in the CL, the Club World Cups, in their national teams, etc. But anyway, I don't see what's illogical about suggesting that grown wealthy men who are international sports superstars should know a few words of English.

Agree. International fans like me would love to hear say Messi speaking English instead of reading stupid subtitles. Its a different experience when you watch interviews of EPL players (except Carragher) and understand their answers

Meh, I don't expect anyone in Barca to learn English, they primarily live in Spain so they don't really need it for everyday life. It's true it would be a nice skill to have, but it's not a requirement & shouldn't be expected. Besides, language acquisition in most cases is harder for adults than children, especially when you're not surrounded by it & don't get a chance to practice it on a regular basis.

It's only a problem if a player moves to England or another English speaking country & never attempts to learn any English. Doesn't Tevez for example still not know hardly any English despite living in England for years now? That's ridiculous imo.

I can speak a few words in a dozen languages, I'm sure the players are similar but that doesn't equate to being conversational...And the point of being conversational is to have someone to converse with...English would be irrelevant to players playing in Spain

Yeah, like I can read & write decent-ish Italian, but my verbal skills are nearly non-existent aside from bare bones basics because I don't have anyone here to practice with.

I'm guessing the majority of people here who aren't already from an English speaking country learned English in school, thus had people to practice with/were prompted to use English on a semi-regular basis at some point in their lives (if you learned 100% on your own with no help, I commend you).

these guys already speak a couple or few languages.

how many do you guys speak?

these guys train/prepare/cool down (team stuff) for about 6-8 hours a day. they have to keep their minds and bodies tip top. they have tons of club/sponsor/community related events they must attend. and you want them to learn english when they have no other use for just because you said so?

lol nice.

nevermind they don't have any use for the language at this point.

I speak 4 languages: Russian, English, Kazakh and Turkish. Learning another language is not that difficult at fact. I think it's very interesting and makes you better, you start to learn more things about different cultures, their manners and traditions. So i don't think learning English is such a big problem for our Latin players. Song speaks many languages.

Also, did him and Pique actually fight on the top of the campiones bus?
