Glad to see some optimistic people starting to emerge from all the doom and gloom. I understand their perspectives as well being that a CB was top priority, but who is to say that Song can not adapt to being more than just a CB cover or DM cover? Mascherano has opened a new page for us in terms of adaptability and new ideas, so perhaps Tito has seen this as an opportunity to use players in utility roles (Cesc, Messi, Mascherano, Adriano, etc). I'm encouraged about this signing, not necessarily because he is what we needed, but rather because of his versatility and mainly his cheap price tag. If he doesn't work out, we can't really say we broke the piggy bank to get him either right?

Welcome, Alex Song!!!

Also, I'd like to point out that here at Barcelona, there is an expected player profile that players must adapt to, not the team adapting to the player (such as with Ibra). I have the utmost confidence in our trainers/staff to teach this to Song, who no doubt has a tendency to lean towards silly fouls, questionable positioning, and bonehead mistakes. His propensity will change to fit the Barcelona profile, one way or the other (see Alexis Sanchez maturity and reserved play style towards end of last season). This discipline can be taught to those willing to learn, and our players have a great team ethic that helps new players come in and be a part of something unique. Song wants to be a part of this, I truly believe that or he would not have pushed for this transfer at all and just said "no".

He has the potential to fulfill Keita's shoes and that will be his place on the team anything extra is just a bonus. 19 million euros is a good price cause he is young and let's consider the crazy prices other teams are paying for equal or inferior players. I consider it a good deal

Skill wise, he has potential to be better on both ends. The problem is there's reason to question his mental ability to be a utility player, though I can't blame the man for not learning to play within structure on Arsenal.

He must be so torn, on one hand it's another signing from a team he actually heard of, on the other hand another African...

I'm encouraged by this buy because I feel he is going to be a role player and fill in that void that Keita left. Cheap price too IMHO.
