To be fair Argentina's performance in the Copa America was just pathetic. Even with all those players, they were playing so terribly that you can't even compare it to their WC 2014 form.

Pathetic? I remember them playing great against Paraguay in the group stage, great against Colombia in QF which was 1-0 only be cause Ospina played the match of his life and putting 5 or 6 goals against Paraguay in semis, absolutely thrashing a team that had just beat Brazil. They were huge favourites going into the final against Chile.

Looks like you watched another tournament then, because Argentina certainly didn't impress against Paraguay in the Group Stage or against Colombia. Only did well vs Paraguay in the SF.

They weren't massive favourites. Chile were beasting and have been doing so under Sampaoli and were the home favourites of the tournament. I'd say the odds were 60-40 to Argentina and that isn't 'massive favourites'.

In the end, the deserved winners Chile won it.

I watched the whole tournament, I suggest you review the Colombia and Paraguay matches. Chile defeated a 1st tier team with the best player in the world. Not a pathetic team at all.

A team full of great players, but played like a pathetic team.

You'll struggle to find many here or......anywhere who actually thought Argentina played well in the tourney.

I dont know what playing well is. I know that the WC 2014 runnerup and Copa América finalist and favourite to win the tournament is anything but pathetic, but if you say so..

Argentina played badly throughout the tournament. Since Tata took over, they've regressed badly, and are surviving on individual talent(Messi).

Sanchez is obviously good enough for barcelona individual abilities wise, but system wise he does not suit barcelona, he was restricted to playing out wide on the right here while sanchez is a player who is best on the left wing and given the freedom to roam around in the front three and cut inside.

Argentina played very, very bad in Copa. I'm not sure how it could be interpreted by anyone as good. Playing good would require them playing as a team and actually outplaying opponents- which they never did. Their wins almost seemed random in nature.

Argentina may not have played so well in the copa but they indeed were the favourites to win it,betting here in melbourne I recall it was arg $2.10 while chile were $2.80 to win, even betting in chile had them as favourites by a little margin just because of the history of our footballing rivarly tends heavily in their favour and also because of what they did against paraguay in the semi final, not to mention having messi, aguero, higuain, di maria etc in their squad.

They were favorites because Messi. Also for being the runner up in the wc. But the football played wasn't good. In general, the tournament was poor, not just the argies.

About Argentina at the Copa America they played really well against Colombia and Paraguay. Against Paraguay they had their best performance in the last couple of years imo. They had a good Copa America, but Chile was slightly better in the final. Tata Martino is also an underrated, if not unlucky, coach. He was very very close of winning the domestic double with Barcelona and Copa America with Argentina, but ended up with 0 trophies. Bad luck more than anything (and the fact that he had no preseason with Barcelona) in my opinion.
