Alvaro Morata

Would think there are others backing Xavi in this and not him stupidly acting on his own.

Laporta with his hard on for Haaland I'm sure won't prioritize Morata ahead of him if he has to choose one or the other.
Sporting department with their scouting reports all over the world, will surely have had the opportunity to present viable options to Morata. There probably are none with experience available.

Alemany and the guys know what needs to be done. If Morata comes, it surely doesn't close the doors for all other reinforcements we are in need of.

If they pay money for Morata and he is the starting CF next season it is not good enough and cant be put down to knowing what is required but no alternatives.

Of course it is mainly on Xavi. He is the one pushing it and has more control over targets than any coach in recent times.

Maybe he wants him as plan B .. a decent option IF we cannot get Haaland for some reason

Xavi's obsession with Spanish players is starting to piss me off, if we get him in a free for 6 months cool, because with no fati & dembele we need bodies, but we shouldn't pay a dime for him.

If Morata is signed for more than just a loan then wouldnt be surprised if some kind of tie in with Griezmann to try and get the money on accounts this summer or now.

Atletico can wait until 2023 until they pay the 40m... and may not even do that in end depending on appearances.

Maybe Barca agree to 'pay' 20-25m for Morata if Atletico pay the 40m for Griezmann this summer./now. That would Improve Barcas books by 40m and then if Morata on 3 year deal at 20m it is 6.6m on the books so improved by 33/34m in summer to help spend on other areas of team.

That is only way can see this deal happening and motivation for spending a fee on Morata.

Don't think they'll spend a lot of money on Morata. If they do, it will allow for other reinforcements as well. Like I said, no way they put it all on Morata. That'd be incredibly stupid.

If club thinks a better, more high profile 9 is not feasible, then 15-20m for Morata would be pretty good. But he's better than that sum, so it probably won't happen for such low money.

My fear would be that Barca do a straight 40m swap with Griezmann and Morata to try and improve the books now.

That is up there with the dodgy deals done in past to boost the books and impact is felt for years after.

If they do the same deal with Morata valued at 15-20m would make a lot more sense with where squad is at moment and boost it can bring to the books but would not be surprised in slightest if is is the 40m swap.

Media will spin it to be a great deal as the Griez money off the books but that would be case 'when' they pay the 40m anyway.

Start pushing back Umtiti contract for years and sign Morata for big money and it just pushes issue further down road and builds with each one.

The only world class thing about Morata is his agent. The fucker somehow gets him big move after big move when all he does is have a bright couple months and fades.

I?m praying for a loan and that?s it.

With Juve buying Vlahovic, my only hope rests with Simeone now to block this ridiculous transfer from materializing.

I don't know what's on Xavi's mind and he thinks this mediocre and slow player can fit in modern football and Barca's football.

But, for whatever reason, I can't accept in 2022 the coach of a team to decide on transfer targets.
The coach merely identifies domains in the squad that need to strengthen, the rest is the job of the SD area of the club backed by its analytics department.

If we end up in the summer with Morata as our CF, Azpli as our RB, on the top of all the other Amigos still playing week in week out,
and at the same time Dest sold, FDJ sold, Dembele gone, Balde on forever loan, Eric Garcia bench-warming, etc
I would have some serious problems with Xavi continuing as our coach.
Not for what we see oon the pitch,
but mainly for hindering the future of the team

Coaches always have in input to the players signed at any top club and that influence grows the more the coachs position is strong at a club.

It is never about coach just identifying a position and Sporting Director takes it from there.

Morata improves current Barca until end of season and is better CF for Xavis style than LDJ and Depay but the issue is if he is the long term plan.

It's not until the end of the season. You bet!
He will stay for longer, much longer, taking advantage of Xavi's weird fondness of him.
He is better than Luuk? Yes, but still below par for modern football.

Other than that, no you are terribly wrong about how clubs work.
The coach NEVER EVER does the work himself of identifying targets, that was done in the past, and nowadays that's the job of SD + analytics departments.
What happens is that he submits his opinion on the final shortlist of players to be signed for a given position he has identified as a weakness,
and that's only * IF HIS POSITION in the club is SUPER STRONG as you say* (call me Klopp or Pep basically)
Then, the final decision is taken by the SD

Xavi is not even in that position, let alone it's not his job to identify targets
