André Gomes

Very weird with him. He has sparks of absolute brilliance. Most of the time he looks really shy/hesitant. The tackles he makes that lead to fouls/cards are mostly due to hesitance. I really hope it can be fixed.

What do you mean? Team was bad, or at least the midfield, but he played well.. He did it against City too.

I'd say Gomes played well for a good five or ten minutes before he became just as bad as everyone else. The game against City is a rare instance of the team actually playing well.

A solid 99% of the time he's right on top of the pile of shit that is our midfield.

Very much this. He is really feeling the pressure of playing for a huge club, and I also hope that he will grow more confident and control his ability better. He is clearly a very talented player, now it's up to him and develop and become an important part in the team. He does show flashes of brilliance. It's refreshing that there are people who still have the eye to notice the positive signs with as much aplomb as the mistakes. Cheers.

You're welcome
Very much agree with some comments. His talent shines through at times, but the same goes for his lack of confidence.

Would like to see Gomes 5 games besides Busquets and Iniesta so that he can adapt to a midfield formation on a consistent basis. Given the performance of our former blonde angel I see Gomes in our Gala XI anyway.

Nevertheless, I think Busi-position fits him most because of his lack of speed.

Starting to think that if he ever turned out world class here it might be as DM,he doesn't have the creativity to break defense but he is capable passer (non-creative) with gr8 ability to retain the ball. If he improve his defense he could do well in that position.
May be that will be good news for Samper and he get moved to CM as everyone wanted?!

He gives me vibes of a DLP, not a DM. He can be someone like Xabi Alonso. I have a sense that this is the reason why Madrid wanted him as well. I do not agree that he does not provide creative passes.

He is a player who can pass and has creativity. At the moment though, he needs to develop a better first touch, because he hesitates a bit when he receives the ball with some pressure on him, and that hesitation makes him lose control of the situation by giving himself less time to make a call. A bad first touch is what gets in him trouble.

I noticed that when he makes a great first touch, the execution and even the vision is there. Very few misplaced passes and some of the passes he makes look easy, but aren't because they are 30m. passes hit with precision and intensity. He knows what to do once he has given himself time to think -- and a midfilder gives himelf more or less time to think (of course, talking about fractions of a second, but that can be the difference in midfield) depending on his first touch. If he improves his first touch, he has all the tools to be a player like Xabi Alonso or even better.

I also think both Busi and him would benefit from a double pivot system. Busquet's drop of form is primarily down to not having players closer to him. We need to bring back short pasing in our midfield, and double pivot will help that. Both our fullbacks push up, and we play in the offense with a 2-4-4, with Messi in a no10 basically, shielded by Busi and Gomes has 5 targets ahead of him. All our offensive trio and the overlapping fullbacks. And at the same time, we keep a double pivot who can react in time in case of a couterattack. This also helps because both Busi and Gomes aren't fast players, and they would benefit from forming a double pivot. Basically, we should switch from a 4-3-3 with 1 DM and 2 midfielders, to a 4-3-3 with 2 DMs and Messi who we know doesn't work off the ball.

In my mind, we need the whole right flank re-done this summer. Both a RB and a RW need to be signed. Right now Alexis would be a great player to have on that right. We need a similar hard working right wing player.

You lost me at "has to learn first touch".

If anyone should play double pivot it's Mascherano. Then Rakitic. Then Roberto.

And btw. we have installed Barca formation creator.

Barca formation creator doesn't allow arrows.

Mascherano can play double pivot as well. But he and Iniesta are quite old. I am talking about the future, not right now. Roberto is overrated here since he caught some good games last season. Ever since he is become worse. Mascherano and Gomes are the best payers we have who we can partner Busi with. Rakitic is not a very good passer, and Roberto is not suitable for the role.

Sometimes I wonder of you are trolling on purpose as I cant believe some things you say.

Have you seen Roberto at DM? He actually looked very good there playing last season.
Rakitic not a good passer?

But hey, Gomes would be better when he learns first touch and when he learns how to defend, eh? Maybe learns how to run faster. Or head the ball.

Rakitic is not a very good and consistent passer. He shows up in the box well and can even score at times, has a good shot, and works hard off the ball. These are his strenghts, not his passing. Roberto was never more than a sub at Barcelona in midfield, so I don't know how he's this supposed great midfielder, yet no one used him there consistently. Roberto can be a solution as a CM, but less so in a double pivot.

- Well, he can pass (if that is a sign of greatness) just like some 20000 other players do in Europe.
- Creativity is a slight problem there, because after watching him for over half a year in this club + the EC, etc. I could detect ONE single creative solution by him. Not much.
- A bad first touch is alas once again not a sign of born a talent or greatness, rather shows the lack of needed skills, usually can't be ever changed.
- Other lacking qualities like: head-ball, speed, not understanding creative players, etc, etc. make him just the average camper with nothing outstanding, which corresponds to the opinions of the entire press and other sort of reliable sources.
Thus I'm positive that you (and some others) are simply dreaming about him to become someone who will be kissed by the magic frog and will suddenly become the princess.
Not impossible but not probable either...
