- Well, he can pass (if that is a sign of greatness) just like some 20000 other players do in Europe.
- Creativity is a slight problem there, because after watching him for over half a year in this club + the EC, etc. I could detect ONE single creative solution by him. Not much.
- A bad first touch is alas once again not a sign of born a talent or greatness, rather shows the lack of needed skills, usually can't be ever changed.
- Other lacking qualities like: head-ball, speed, not understanding creative players, etc, etc. make him just the average camper with nothing outstanding, which corresponds to the opinions of the entire press and other sort of reliable sources.
Thus I'm positive that you (and some others) are simply dreaming about him to become someone who will be kissed by the magic frog and will suddenly become the princess.
Not impossible but not probable either...

He can't just pass, he can pass very well and on long distances as well. His passing range is very good and his passes are consistently precise.
A bad first touch can also be down to low confidence and getting used to more pressure at a new club. This is the part of adapting, learning how to cope with more pressure is the most important part of the adaptation process.
He has creativity, and I believe he will show that more often next season. If given trust.
Speed is not great, that is true and it will not change much.

An average camper is not pursued by Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus, 3 of the 5 best teams in the world. He clearly has qualities.

Barça signed Douglas and made Lucho say he was good enough. That really doesn't mean much.

Huh? There is no connection between Douglas and Gomes. None.

You said an average camper is not pursued by Barcelona. And douglas is one. Don't forget Mendes. His players are overrated everywhere, thanks to his magic.

Gomes would be a much better fit to juve or rm. And I'm sure all of them have pursued bad players in the past. It happens. Not saying it's his Gomes' case, he's just a bad fit for Barça.

Maybe we need to reconsider what is a good fit or not for this period in time. And sure all of Barca, Madrid and Juventus have been wrong about players and will be in the future, but very rarely at the same time. When a player is disputed by so many great teams, 99% of the time there is a lot of quality tied to that player.

99% is an exaggeration. And you keep forgetting Mendes, or not giving him credit. It's thanks to him many people think cr is on par, or better, than Messi.

You think big teams don't follow players they want to sign and instead call Mendes? Mendes' influence is overstated. And not many people think CR is on par, or better, than Messi. Most of the professionals think Messi is clearly superior. A lot of people who say Ronaldo is better are former Madrid or United players, or people who are connected in a way with Ronaldo's past or present.

You sound like as if you were his agent or a close relative...

- If someone is capable of precise long range passes, that's one part of the armory of a good average player. The problem starts if he can't pass but only to 5 meters and only if there's nobody close by. In Barca it is demanded to do much more than uninteresting passes.
- The "first touch" is what makes a player individually creative, skillful and so it has little to do with confidence.
- You mention: adapting, confidence, learning, next season, etc. possibilities that a Barca category team simply can't afford while playing and at the same time having mixed results.
- A "Barca material" player is like Umtiti, who doesn't need more confidence, adaptation, first touch, etc. because with him all these just seem to work, without the good old list of the pedagogical hopes.

Many players are pursued or watched by those rich and important teams, but when the press starts to combine one of them with this or that team, it often means they just play a game with names, mainly to misguide the other teams and also to push or gas prices up...

I don't know what Mendes do, but he manages to get his players a better reputation than what they are in reality. His influence is hardly overstated, it's real.
