Of course he could be vague. Lucho does it all the time. The journalist didn't have a gun to his head. For one, he could had not explicitly said Gomes is staying regardless of problems, and all that adaptation stuff, or comparing him to laudrup or koeman. He went an extra mile to justify Gomes' issues, because he likes him and won't sell him this summer.

If the "good game" definition stands for not committing too many mistakes, then you are right.
If a player plays well when adds something to the average or easy solutions, then you were wrong, because apart from having the possible easiest passes when bringing out the ball, Gomes did literary nothing.
He had two bad shots and two tries to make long cross-balls, both were wrong and resulted the attackers not even trying to go after those. To sum it up, as a member of the winning team, he didn't play bad but also didn't show anything worth to mention...
