André Gomes

I'd much prefer he gets sold, I'm not sure I was ever arguing in favor of a loan, I just want Gomes gone at all costs.

What if Adama ended up going to PSG instead of the EPL and became top goal scorer and lead PSG to their first ever CL victory (Which could happen for all we know)? Everyone would be all over Lucho for not even giving him a chance!

I get the false equivalency you're trying to make with Kroos but just like Adama obviously isn't in the same category as Gomes, Gomes obviously isn't in the same class as someone like Kroos.

I didn't mention you specifically but there were people here who expected we'll loan Gomes. And I was just saying that I don't see this happen with Mendes as his agent. Even with our usual incompetence selling players we can count on Mendes to find a club willing to pay solid fee for Gomes. He gets percentages of every transfer so it's in his best interest to sell his players and not loaning them. That's pretty much the only good thing dealing with agents like Mendes and Raiola.

Where did you get that Kroos reference? I didn't compare him to Gomes and I'm pretty sure I've never even mentioned his name here.

I have honestly no idea why he has the "slow" tag, while none of our midfielders are faster than him, nor is it even a quality to seek in a midfielder.
Just the fact that he is taller makes him look slower. Just like watching Usain Bolt run will not make you realize how fast he really is as his feet are just not moving that fast compared to the traditional short sprinters.
Xavi wasnt fast as well, Rakitic is not fast, not to mention Busi. If anything, he reminds me Yaya Toure a bit, who always seems to just barely move himself on the field, but nethertheless actually runs at decent speed.
Same way Messi is not really that fast when it comes to top speed, he is just small and his feet are moving so much faster, that it makes one feel like he is moving really fast. Not talking about amazing ball control or balance this man has, another topic.
Gomes is just a perfect scapegoat:
*cost alot of money
*young and not from la masia
*someone outside the system to put the blame on for unremarkable season
*portugese (not calling anyone out, but Ronaldo/Mourinho/Mendes effect is clearly visible even on this forum)

His performances have been not great, sure, but he is getting unproportional amount of stick and blamed for stuff he should not get blamed off. And way too much "told you so" moments here, everyone has such short memories, as it was largely considered a major and good deal to avoid Real getting their desired player once the deal happened.

I will give him 5/10 for first season, not over yet as well, will see what role if any he will play in our potential title challenge, but he has certainly time to improve and maybe under motivated and more tactical coach he can reach new levels here as well, so i would definitely not sell him.

I've said this previously but I have never seen such polar opinions on players on Barca Forum. The Alexis and Cesc threads were bad at the time, but we have too many players this season where users think they are doing either really bad, decent, or good.

I am in the "really bad" crowd. You could tell me a lot of things about him, like how he isn't slow (and I'm sure he isn't) but his reaction time is so bad. So many counters on the right side in the last 10-15 mins of the Clasico were due to him not catching up to Carbajal or Asensio, etc. Seems like he doesn't read the opposition too well. He also makes a lot of unintentional fouls, which to me seem like frustration fouls after he loses the ball or a player easily dribbles past him. Credit where credit is due, however, for waiting for Alba to make the run and then passing him the ball.

Only game for me where he looked more than mediocre was against Juventus away. He came on around the 70th minute mark and instantly made a difference with a lot of quick short passes, ala tiki taka Barca.

I think it's some sort of a confidence issue with him. He seems shy, hesitant, and in Barca you need to be nearly perfect due to the high level we play at. I am for giving him another season, but if he flops next season, then his market value will tank much more than it already has...

He's considered slow for more than just his speed. He's slow in his decision making and movement of the ball as well as his snail pace and inability to make a tackle without fouling.

And you'd really give him a 5/10? A player who by himself is probably our worst midfielder since at least the Riijkard era?

The reference to Gomes being slow is not really about how fast he runs. It's more about how fast he reacts to various situations during the game.

He is hesitant in everything he does as he is completely shitting himself about making mistakes.

That is why he appears so slow I think. Not that he is the quickest anyway.

I actually think that may play a large part of it. He's probably a much better, faster thinking player in training because if he makes a mistake he can just laugh it off, which of course means he's less likely to make any mistakes. That's how players like Mats and Valdes can play outfield and how Pique can play striker during training. It should be on Lucho to recognize that Gomes is lacking in those areas when points are actually on the line and it doesn't seem he's capable of doing that.

Some people here need to watch some matches where he plays with his NT. He plays exactly thé same like when he plays for barca. So my conclusion is that his performance has nothing to do whit adapting, tacktics, new coach etc.

No, polar opinions is about MATS,Mathieu not Gomes. The whole forum agree he is bad. it is just how bad he is, and about assessing how good he was b4 us
