True, Valencia have always played well against RM in the last few years. They play their hearts out against them. Gomes is a passenger though and will never ever be good enough for any top team ever. His level was at his mid table La Liga team.

He is far better than mid table la liga level and was one of Valencias top players.
Not saying he will ever star for a top team but he was better at Valencia than you are making out. Which is the reason he caught the eye of the biggest clubs going.
Valencia were absolutely dreadful last season and has improved somewhat this season. Hopefully they buy him back. I dont care about any media rumors about him. The biggest clubs are always linked to lots of players and agents have a big influence in these transfer rumors. How serious these rumors were, we wont know.
As long as we get rid of him, I'll be happy. But we most certainly shouldnt expect him to be signed by a big club with plenty of money.

Was not media rumours that Barca and Real wanted him.
Valencia improving this season doesnt mean anything compared to the circus there last season.
Barca may well get rid of him but it doesnt mean he was as bad at Valencia as you say when he clearly wasnt. He was inconsistent in a team with no stability but showed potential.
He most certainly was nowhere near the level required by a top club so it should come as no one's surprise that he is performing like he does for us.

Dont think any of the top clubs thought he would come in and be ready straight away it was a gamble on his potential after a good season at Valencia.
His performances this season are worse than he should be expected going on how he was at Valencia without a doubt.

Gomes was one of the best performers in Valencia team that ended up 4th in one of the most competitive seasons in Liga in 2015. That wasn't a mid-table Liga team
Last season this team was circus,the owner firing a real coach to get his friend the job was a joke. Teams were interested in their player was based more on the time they were team before hiring Neville
He looked like a future star there and was undoubtedly destined to be signed for a big club. It isn't an agent or media thing. He was an absolute bad fit here. He probably would have fit the likes of Juve or RM much more. May be he wouldn't have succeeded their either, not every player who shows potential succeed in big clubs and it seems he has weak mentality.
But people are severely underrating his level at Valencia,specially in his 1st season. That team looked like it was heading into being a force in European football,young well built team that needed couple of signings to move to the next level. Then things got mad in summer and they took 5 steps backward.
When a player like Paco (who IIRC hated Barca) who was coming from youth system and was considered the star and fan favorite of the team force his way out to play in the bench for Suarez it tells yu how bad things was there last year.

I still believe Gomes can come good, but under a manager like Enrique who has hardly improved any of our players wasn't that smartest move on his part, as well as ours.

Many football fans, I feel, have a very short memory. Which is why, Gomes's good season in 14/15 is overlooked. "What have you done for me recently.." and all that, you know.
Funny enough, from what I've seen of him while watching Bayern games for class, Gomes's compatriot, Renato Sanches, has been a similar bust at Bayern, with his performances being only marginally better than Andre's.

Denis has been much better in La Liga than Andre Gomes. I dont think Gomes was anywhere near good enough for a top team when he played for Valencia. I fail to see why some were so impressed with him. He was slow and cumbersome, weak defensively and frequently disappeared for long stretches of the game. In 14/15 he had one assist in 33 La Liga games. His correct level was and is far below Barcelona.

It not so much being impressed with him as to think he showed Barca level at Valencia but he showed a lot more than now and it is not accurate to say what we are seeing now is what should have been expected.
He was up and down at Valencia and had some great games and some poorer ones. It is a gamble that as a young player he can get those better performances more consistently as much as anything.
Thats what caught the interst of Barca and Madrid would guess.
