André Gomes

A couple of times he looked like Busi there, but he misplaces too many easy passes.

Busquets has done that too lately.

We shouldn't expect Gomes to be new Busquets or new Raki/Iniesta, we should just accept him to be Andre Gomes. Young player with potential who is still raw in many phases of his game and for who Lucho is still trying to find the role which would fit his abilities and playing style the best. Playing all three midfield positions helps him to get minutes but it doesn't really help him to adapt easily because every position requires different tasks he needs to learn. I think the most important thing for him is to be a better and more adapted player to our system at the end of the season than he was when he came here. I believe he'll improve a lot but some inconsistency should be expected down the road. He'll have some bad, some average and I hope a lot of good games but we shouldn't really overreact to any of them.

he does that in every game he plays. exactly once a game, throw the ball to the weirdest place possible.

it must be a running bet he has with some friend, or something.
I noticed the first time when he was at Benfica. He kept doing it while at Valencia. Just pay attention to his next game, it's guaranteed to happen.

first it's weird. then you accept it. then it's just funny.

I can accept one or two passes like that every game if he plays good otherwise. If he has to lose the ball it's much better to do it that way than to lose the ball in our own half and risk a possible counterattack.

There must to be a huge fucking bias against him when people complain about him mistaking a lot of passes in the same match he achieved 98% pass success rate.

Honestly, I think we should all rethink a little bit about it because it's happening on other threads too.

Mats > people had the courage to say he was responsible for Ramos goal;

Gomes > people complaining about bad passes when he achieved 98% success rate;

Paco > people not even noticing he assisted Arda in a very decent play by his own.

And so goes on with other players, mainly Neymar.

I don't know what is causing it, but I am sure this is not good for the forum "health".

Food for thought, fellas.

It`s easy to diagnose. Barca fans are spoilt with Xavi-Iniesta-Messi generation and anyone that is not on that level will be criticized. Add to that some really stupid moves by our board and you have what you have

Several reasons, most important is that they are all bought players, for some unknown reason, in international club forum, many people have totally biased views on homegrown players. I personally couldnt give a flying f..k if Xavi, Iniesta and Messi were raised in La Masia or bought for 100 millions each, if they had similar careers in club. I seriously doubt we have so many catalans here, for whom caring about this should be relevant. Also for many they preferred some other player in their role, for example Bravo instead of Mats, Munir instead of Paco, Samper instead of Gomes and they try to find anything they can to justify their ego and make their choices feel better. Also relevant is the fact that for some reason if you are homegrown, you seem to have no "pricetag" pressure on you, although it should not be the case. Those players did not make their own fees, Paco didnt say to Barca, u need to cough that amount for me. But once money is involved, everyone will start comparing what has been bought for same money and usually not taking any consideration on different time and circumstances. So in essence, if Paco would have come on a free, he would get alot less stick, although this is totally wrong.
Last but not least, this is internet forum, filled with trolls like others, there is so much provoking going on, people just messing and posting outrageous stuff to get that reaction and mark the day successful on their calendars.

I like Gomes. I don't think he is good enough to make us great again, he is not technical enough but he is a good player and seems like a great guy so I'll give him a chance. Could work out with Iniesta in MF.

People very rarely change their opinions. Most of those who didn't want him, don't like him or think he is a bad player will seek every opportunity to blame him for everything. Same goes for Neymar and other players.

Kovacic looks tiny bit better (if any) because he has Modric moving around constantly whereas Gomes is paired with Busquets, both of them being slow af.
Not really. Kovacic was ALWAYS big talent. Extremely tough on his feet, great dribbler and very technical player. His problem was in his head...Everyone in Croatia knew he was going to be good one day, and that day has come. I've been saying 3 years ago to get Kovacic. In a year he will be worth 50-60m without a doubt, and we are gonna be left with Arda and Gomes.

I agree with your first sentence.
But the rest is questionable to say the least.
Barca is way too dependent financially or way too professional, as a club, to simply offer chances to sympathetic players, who simply don't belong to the world-class or semi-world-class that the team needs, which is the second most expensive one globally.
Many experts consider Busquets being one of the best midfielders on Earth, which Gomes will hardly ever become. He is good, no doubt about that but definitely not world-class that Barca needs. He played very flat at the European CS for Portugal (substituted in every match) and we would have never ever noticed him if he wasn't targeted by the coach and the club. He is not "that" young either and however useful he might play at certain games, neither his talents nor his lack of capability to "see the entire game" will ever make him truly outstanding.

False, many noticed him from the first time he kicked a ball in the Valencia shirt. Just read the old la liga threads or this thread in the early pages. And many of the people talking about Kovacic etc would have been doing exactly the same thing with Gomes if he had ended up there. It basically happens anytime one of Isco, Varane or James has some good games.

Key is actually playing him where he belongs. If he keeps on playing like this, we can afford to rest Busquets a lot more often, which could be very beneficial as he's getting older.

Agreed. He looks so much better when he is playing as DM! He still needs to improve about moving into position to receive the next pass, but he is ready now to start about every third game at DM.

False for you - but logical for me...
But essentially one should understand this type of logic, the one that Enrique seems to forget:
Have a look at the last season, a successful one for Barca, even if at the European championship was a failure. Which classes played, who still consist the gala-XI's backbone:

Bravo - World Class
Alves - World Class
Pique - World Class
Mascherano - World Class
Alba - National Class
Rakitic - National Class
Busquets - World Class
Iniesta - World Class
Messi - World Class
Suarez - World Class
Neymar - World Class

All of them are World Classes with two exceptions.
Now the new players, towards whom Lucho over-confidently wished to employ his unsuccessful "rotation" method:

Ter Stegen - National Class (with a slight optimism)
Roberto - National class (with a slight optimism)
Umtiti - National class (the best signing in a year)
Digne - National class (with a slight optimism)
Gomes - National class (with a slight optimism)
Denis S. - Domestic Class
Arda - National class (with a slight optimism)
Alcacer - Domestic Class

If one at least tries to be objective, it's obvious that we want to substitute the departed or aging players by a different class of players, regardless if they have good and bad days, or if they can improve a lot due to their age (and a 23-25 yrs old player is NOT that young anymore...) or accommodation to the style.

When these players are given the needed time in order to incorporate some of them into the team, the net-results speak for themselves. Six points behind RealM, bad performances at home, luckily won games at the last minute, etc.

So to simply put: you cannot simply substitute a World Class player with a domestic talent! Results and game-play will suffer...
The only feasible thing a good club and good coach might or should do is trying to incorporate "lower class" players into the team One by One. Carefully and meticulously.
Where he is needed and whenever is needed, but definitely NOT by trying to rotate 3-4 or more players at a time and hoping that the however talented lower class substitutions will bring the very same results that the World Class ones usually bring...
