I really don`t understand the hype around Kovacic at the moment. This guy is battling with inconsistency all his career. He had great games in Inter and after that he would completely disappear and play terrible. This hasn`t changed after 4-5 good games in Madrid. He is not better than Gomes at the moment, he just has Modric besides him, so of course he looks better.

I still believe in Gomes and hope that he will adapt to our style (if there is one right now) and fulfill his potential, because if he turns out to be another shit signing, we could be in for a downfall like United.

Its not about ruling him out after 10 games, just watch him play in Valencia! It seems that people here simply never watched him play in Valencia, assumed he was amazing since RM reportedly were interested in him and just refuse to believe that he is an average player and not Barca quality.

I always tought Kovacic was crap in Inter and when he came to Madrid. For an attacking midfield center he always made bad choices and did not score any goals.

The same criticism was made for Modric (not scoring goals ...) by the croatian media at his early days in Dinamo Zagreb. That was untill Dinamo`s new coach Josip Kuže moved Modric back in a more defensive role. Modric whined in the media how he prefers playing closer to the goal he wanted to be a typical "10".. bla bla but at the end he mastered that centre postiton with small simple passing and hard defense. That "dirty" work got him from Dinamo to Tottenham and finally Madrid.

It is the same for Kovacic now. He was moved to more defensive role and is completely mimicking Modric in his style of play, and it is working. Its not flashy it wont make any headlines or land him an endorsment deal but it made him into a starter for Madrid. Too add he is better at his age than Modric himself was, meaning he is only going to get better.
Now i do not know was it Zidane or Modrics mentorship that lead to his pitch position change but the important thing is that it worked. It worked for him and his career, he does his job without the pressure of assists and goals and it workd for Madrid who have good holding midfielder that in the years to come will replace Modric perfectly. It should be noted that luck had some part to it becuse he got his chance when injuries struck Madrid.

Worse than that... disgusting in a game with few chances and counter-attacks. And have a look at how the attackers stop because they don't understand his "solo" intention, they simply don't trust him...

I said that he has always shown more glimpses of overall quality than Gomes ever has. He showed his quality but has been inconsistent with it. He is younger than Gomes too.

Gomes has never shown very impressive quality- nor at Valencia or the Euros. Many of you are simply hoping an average player develops WC qualities out of thin air without having any kind of foundation of quality to build on.

We are playing like Utd at the moment. Our results are similar too. Lots of draws. Unlike Utd we need to be patient and no throw the chequebook at any player that looks promising.

We havent really thrown the chequebook at good and promising players for years now except Umtiti. A stream of garbage is constantly incoming every transfer window and we are getting ever more reliant on our aging La Masia stars.

You can't really blame other players for Gomes' lack of impact... Sure, the setup is not ideal and we have been having some collective issues, but in the end of the day Gomes hasn't been able to show absolutely anything to make us think he can make it here...

It's still early, but we need him to look good on his own, not because he has Iniesta next to him...
