anybody seen this
movie? its seems like the vast amount of americans that have recently start to watch football(soccer) tries to turn out sport into this shit as well. i wouldn't be surprised if soon some fat dudes who have never even seen the game come right from college and start to steal our game and turn this into shit. with all these stats etc. try to build a team around numbers and not even bother to watch the games. sitting on their computers and try to calculate a better team. and especially now after we have seen barca featuring on 60 minutes...
i just leave this here as well.
I'm American, and you have to understand that baseball is a different sport that lends itself exceptionally well to statistical analysis. It is a team game, but to a large extent, one's individual performance is entirely unrelated to who else is on your team because, when you are at bat, it is just you vs. the pitcher basically. There are small factors based on your team. For instance, if you've got a really good batter right after you in the batting order, pitchers are less likely to risk walking you; they don't want you on base in case the batter after you bombs a home run. As a result, the pitcher might give you a more hittable pitch instead of pitching around the strike zone and risk walking you. For the most part, though, a hitter's output is quite unrelated to what team he is on. Similarly, a pitcher's output is largely unrelated to what team he is on (unless you are talking about the win-loss record).
Football is different. More than virtually any other sport, a player's output is dependent on his team.
With that said, though, statistics DO have their place in football. It's just that, unlike baseball, there are some things (like who makes intelligent runs to draw defenders away, for instance) that can't really be statistically quantified.
