Well there aren't any top defenders around at the moment, when the best around is Thiago Silva (as good as he is) there's a problem & there is nothing wrong with that statement, i've watched countless of Barcelona games & nine times out of ten that's what he does when dribbling.

I find his dribbling to be very predictable.

It's not a matter of predictability, but the level of skill at which it is performed... Messi has been compared to a videogame plenty of times, and that's what it is, he has found a way to exploit defenses and he's going to do it because it works, kinda like when you are playing FIFA/PES with mates and you know for a fact what they are going to do, yet there's the one asshole that you simply can't beat because he's better than you, hahaha...

Serious question have you ever played football?, perhaps you should try your luck as a defender, I mean a guy that claims Messi's dribbling is predictable and cannot realize how defenders don't go for the "obvious", surely should apply as a defender, who knows perhaps you can stop the non-sense of Messi being compared to Maradona in that regard

Nesta was 36 & has had an awful lot of injuries in his career, he was as slow as a snail at that point & still had the better of him.

Yes i have played football not that has anything to do with anything because i'm playing with friends, my point is Iniesta is alot more unpredictable with his dribbling, using both feet. Messi however is very predictable.

That is my opinion & a fair few people go along with that, the fact is there are barely any top defenders around at this point.

First part is ridiculous . Quality of a few world class defenders does not affect the quality of defensive systems Barcelona face every match.Also you should wonder why Malaga can keep such a good defensive record without any worldclass and young defenders in the team .At the highest level it is 90% about the system implemented .Individual quality can make little difference though but that is rare for example Varane having a super game .

Dribbling is getting past the 1v1 opponent with the ball in possession , the rest all is just ball manipulation to take the opponent out out of his original position .
Dribbling is always predictable if your 1v1 opponent doesn't buy your fake moves with organized support as you can only get past from left or right ( over the top is rare ) .In Barcelona's matches that is the case all the time for the forwards as they face organized defense near the area due to slow possession build-up . You being a regular Serie A watcher must have noticed the reduction in Alexis' dribbles and flair due to reduction in space he gets . No one buys his ball Manipulation these days .

For all the Iniesta love here ,everyone was blaming Spain to play slow ,boring football to win matches even when Iniesta was performing great dribbles .

I enjoy Messi with Argentina more. When he is in mood to play well : example vs Equador in June and Uruguay in October last year -he is the ultimate player to watch .

iniesta is much less predictable. it's like he opens a new dimension for himself just when it seems impossible to get out.

He'd be lucky to make the top 5, in my opinion.

Hummels, Kompany, Chiellini, Barzagli, Dante, Vidic (form) and Varane (possibly) are the elite at present.

Rio, Subotic, Silva, Ramos, Pique, Mascherano and Pepe are a tier below.

I dont know why he is mentioning top defenders anyway. Messi plays away from that zone. As long as he has a partner ahead of him it wouldnt matter if you had two baresi's because he is a passing genius. Defenders are scared because they dont know if he will pass , dribble or shoot. The perfect player. He has the capability to do all from the same posture so they just never know. its the midfield that you have to stop him and most teams try that anyway.

How could anyone watch sequences like that and think its lack of defending that helps him? Look at 1:50, he is kicked to the ground and still makes the pass

He very rarely got beyond our centre backs. It took a lucky long shot for him to score. van der Sar should have saved it.

To be honest I along with many United fans thought that was a commendable performance from your defenders. But Barca and Messi were just better . You can't say Messi got lucky in that match as he got into dangerous positions throughout the match .

As someone said - football is a game of mistakes .The one who makes less mistakes finally wins

Vidic has got to be the most overrated defender in the world. Spends 80% of the time injured and when he plays he's just barely solid. Same with Rio Ferdinand who nowadays focuses on twitter more than football. Now he's an even bigger donkey than he was before. Silva is definitely one of the best defenders in the world if not the best.
