Andrés Iniesta

Behrox

Vice President of FC Barcelona
Which is why I brought up the fact about opinions I've watched them both play and I consider Iniesta to be a better passer and dribbler. Iniesta has never taken free kicks/corner kicks because he's played with the likes of Ronaldinho (One of the best free kick takers of this century if not ever), Xavi and messi, and now Fabregas but I will concede that Zidane was better in that aspect.

Now about the 2008-2012 thing, the team would not be considered the best ever if not for iniesta not only because of his immense talent but because if it wasn't for his goal there would have been no sextuple, barca would've won at most 3 trophies that year. Messi didn't score it, Xavi didn't score it, Eto'o didnt score it. Zidane's goal from the cl final was brought up but iniesta's goal in the semi final was probably one of the most important goals ever scored in Barcelona's history, it heralded the coming of the greatest team of all time. So no I don't agree that Messi is the main reason, I believe the quartet of Messi,Iniesta,Xavi and Busquets is what made Barcelona the Best team ever, take out anyone of them and it can no longer be stated as such, look how abysmal we look with just Xavi's decline or when Busquets/Messi/Iniesta is having a bad day.

Now we can agree that Zidane is a more consistent goalscorer and better set piece taker but you don't agree on that Iniesta is a better assister, dribbler and passer than him, I've watched zidane play and he simply doesn't match up, even when you go highlight reel for highlight reel iniesta far outstrips him in this aspect.
Da Hell how can you actually forget the TARZAN!!

Get a grip, this is very easy: messi is the main reason because he is the best player. The team is of course important, maradona, pele, Zidane, ronaldo, they all needed great teamates, no doubt about it. Its 11 vs 11 after all. But the best player in general is the most important player.

There are a bunch of reasons for our downfall, blaming xavi is the easiest way out. What about Alves, puyol, abi, villa, they are out. pedros and piques failure.....so many factors. Management, the board, the coach, ability.....
When you score over 90 goal a season you need some serious skills. Without messi, Barca looks very bad.

The age of 30 has come for the Don. Let's hope he keeps this up for another 5 years!

i match your 5 and raise you 6, because then he could play in the 2020 "continental euro". Which would be an exit worthy of a don (the 2022 wc in freaking quatar with 38 might be a bit much)

I'm no oracle, but i have the feeling that iniesta could very well retain his high level for some years. By all logic he should neither lose his ball control nor his vision as he gets older. Much like zidane, hopefully

Get a grip? How about you my post was in no was a degradation of Messi's skills and or his title as the best player in the team/world/ever whichever you prefer. He is the best player on the team but the players I mentioned (And Puyol which I forgot thanx Behrox ) were all absolutely essential to the 2008-2012 team, simply put if you take out a cog from the machine that was Pep's team it wouldn't work like it did. Take out Messi we wouldn't have won the champions league, Take out Iniesta we wouldn't have won the champions league, take out Xavi etc etc etc.

Yes we are worse without messi because we lose about 3/4's of our scoring threat, but without iniesta we can't penetrate (good) parked buses, without Busquets we get run over in midfield, without xavi we play a poor man's version of tiki taka.

My post had nothing to do with our downfall, I was just playing the importance of these players, including messi, to our success in 2008-2012. So let me clarify Messi is the best player on our team and the most important forward but our midfield trio is just as important, without them there would be no headlines saying Barca were the best team ever and the Spain National team's success is a testament to that.

Pep also had good ball control and vision. He retired early. I think it is also fair to say that Xavi has declined from his peak as well.
