So let's see.

Alves(39)-Pique(35)-xxxx-Alba(33)
------Busquets(34)--------
----xxxx--xxxxx------
Di Maria(34)-------xxxxx-
-------Lewa(34)----------

Imagine that outfield lineup next season. Somehow we release Messi, Suarez, Rakitic and Vidal in consecutive seasons, and get an older 11

Had to let Messi go. Suarez, Rakitic and Vidal were beyond finished.

From these, Pique is finished. Busquets and Alba are mediocre. Alves is intended to be a squad player(put Azpi instead). Di Maria has a lot to offer. Lewandowski is the best there is.

And out of these, Pique Alba and Busquets aren't new signings but they were already there. Kinda stuck with Pique tbh.

If Di Maria would take a small wage he would be decent for 1 year as another forward option even at his age as little risk associated.

Not the same as old players that can run being put on huge contracts and still having team built to them.

The free transfer market next summer is even tastier than this one as it stands so stop gap until then isnt bad.

Not suggesting otherwise with the exits. Just the age of starters is ridiculous. Put Azpi in there and he is still 33 next season.

Ofc all 30 year olds are not built equally fitness wise just as 17 year olds. So Lewa and Alba can still go compared to Pique. No idea why I typed Puyol the first time

All good, we just fill up the rest with Gavi, Pedri, Ansu and then we almost have a normal looking average age.

We know we are just compiting to pass CL group and second spot in la liga. We can do it without Alonso, Azpi and Di Maria.

If Dembele leaves I would say he is a decent stop gap for 1 year.

We have no money to sign any high profile wingers so this will have to do.

Di Maria and possession-based football isn't necessarily a good combination though.
Di Maria is no stranger to taking risks, and therefore, losing the ball, i seem to remember Van Gaal wasn't thrilled about it at United, so probably Xavi will be fustrated too.

You kidding, no way Di Maria loses the ball more than Dembele, impossible.

Yeah I never liked Di Maria that much because of this either, but if he replaces Dembele there will be much less losses of possession while also more end product. Xavi might be frustrated but if he shows it anymore than he did with Dembele he is a hypocrite.

Might need to take him for one year and take a hit overall this season. As long as that means we're ready to compete in the transfer market again next season.

Xavi need to do what good managers do. Elevate his team. If he can't then maybe we would be looking for a new manager in 2023 too.
