If he was staying at Atleti he would come out and say it wouldn’t he?? I’m still holding out hope that we sign him and a top midfielder.

He just might in the next several days before the World Cup.

What I found interesting was, even in the supposed rebuttal to the claim that he will be staying at Atletico, there was a strong sense of denial of a pre-deal made with us:

“As of today, we do not know where Antoine will be playing next season. Antoine has still not decided what his new club is. And contrary to everything that has been said in recent months, he has not signed any pre-contract with Barcelona.”

To me that looks like a prelude to him saying he will stay.

I am really confused by griezmann right now. Why is he waiting? because of a new contract with atm? Because he doesnt know what to do? Because He doesnt know how to tell us he changed his opinion after assuring us he will join us 100% with number 7 waiting for him? He wants a better contract with us than we promised him? I also have a feeling that he is coming and that this is the classical staged "drama" in the last moments, as always.
Barca should negotiate with a club first and then with a player, right?
And since his clause hasn't dropped to 100M yet, then if Griezz would now come out and say: I am coming, it would be clear that we talked to a player first (everyone is doing that, but still).
If Griezmann will wait until his clause will drop to 100M, then Barca will look slightly "less bad" from a legal perspective.

Griezmann said he'll announce his decision before the WC. So he might say 'I've decided to leave Atletico Madrid', but without revealing the club which is obvious that it's Barcelona.

Exactly. We should at least fix the midfield instead, give Suarez a world class midfield behind to supply him again...and he might have a good extra 1-2 years here. If he still doesn't deliver, we can always (hopefully have the balls to) bench him and play Coutinho up front and keep Suarez as a super-sub as long as he's content with it.

Real has just won 3 Cls.
Good guy Barto will buy Griezmann, but it "wasn't" an easy deal.
He had to work, fight and negotiate all the time to steal Griezmann from Am's hands.

This is the exact same game Neymar played last year. When asked about his future he would evade the question or the media would be reporting that 'he hasn't decided yet'. And when the transfer happened they played it as a last minute decision to join PSG.

We all know that was BS and he had made his decision to join PSG along ways back.

If Griezmann wasn't coming he would have signed a new contract Atletico and committed to them after the end of the season and winning Europa trophy.

He'll run with the same narrative that 'I had to think long and hard about this and it was a very difficult decision that I didnt decide on until the last minute, but I will be leaving Atletico for FC Barcelona...'
