Antoine Griezmann

As far as I remember, he had an unofficial agreement to join Barcelona. I think this is the reason why number 7 was not given to Coutinho in the beginning since they kept it for Griezmann. He was even jeered and booed by Atletico fans because of this. In the mid of June 2018 he made a special video in which he informed everyone that he's staying in Madrid saying "My fans, my team, my home. Here, I would make history. At Barcelona, I would just be one more.". For me, this is more than enough not to want Antoine in Barcelona.

As I remember it, Griezmann and Barca had an unofficial agreement according to the media. Which doesnt mean shit in reality. I think if Griezmann acutal had agreed to a transfer, we wouldnt have it slide. I cant deny that the odds are high that Griezmann was 'in talk' with Barca about a possible transfer, which more or less was confirmed by ATM who threanted to sue / send a complaint to fifa. But what acutally went down in these talks we have no idea about, and my taking on this was: Griezmann never made a promise to transfer, but terms where agreed if he decided to transfer, and we would have informed what role he would have in the team and what our project for the coming years would be. Based on these talks Griezmann had a decision to make, which ended up with a documentary not only engineered by !Pique but also was the person who came up with the idea (i recall him stating that last last year).
So it hasnt been confirmed that Griezmann actually broke some promise with the club or was acting in bad faith. He made the video - which was kinda akward for us, but thats it. Personally i dont care too much about the video, its wasnt disrespectfull, more a testement that he felt ATM was a home for him and he wants to stay. The person who had an obligation to the club, Pique, did in fact 'fuck up' - so should we just shred his contract as well?

I agree with some of your arguments including Pique's participation. I didn't like this.

Why I think that there really was an agreement between Griezmann and Barcelona? 1) Coutinho didn't get immediately number 7 when he signed with us. 2) ATM threatened to sue us. I doubt it was for nothing. 3) There were serious rumours about the transfer for a long time.

Why I think Griezmann chose to stay at ATM? 1) He got big pay rise. 2) He was stressed/scared by ATM's fans attitude because of the possible transfer. 3) Family.

This is the same reasons that made us sign Coutinho.
Signing just based on quality is good if you are playing FIFA, not in real life. Player has to fit into your system and the players beside them especially when you are going to join a superior player

Broadly speaking I agree, but got any names?

For why he chose to stay:
1) I really dont think the salary played that big a role, or was deciding factor. All tho he probably would have demanded atm to match at least our offer if they hadnt done it themselves 2) Dont think the fans attitude played a postive role, neutral at best - its more likely he got pressured / convinced from the dressing room including his good fried Godin and by the manager and club it self (Staf etc). Their common dream was to win Champions league on their stadium this year, which also probably played a role, (=he could probably feel the dedication of winning a title with this team and it would have been a huge achievment and also made him candidate for ballon d'or. 3) family, according to media, his parents wanted him to make the transfer, while his girlfriend wanted him to stay in ATM. (fuck girlfriends haha, Frenkies gf apparently also wanted him to move to PSG in stead of Barca

I feel like we need to get bigger and faster. Not get a player who plays and occupies the same spaces as Messi and Coutinho. If we are signing him then Coutinho has to be sold for sure.

I think he would need to be sold for wage bill reasons first and foremost.

damn didn't realize that he's going to be 29 next year march. I hope the board is making the right decision.
Yeah his age is definitely on the wrong side. If he's a immediate impact then I would hesitate but not sure about that, it depends what the (competitive) coach has in his minds.

Fuk me... mentalities like him are exactly what Barca doesn’t need. Expecting another remontada against us in the UCL

he is a better player than Suarez, he can play deep, Keep the ball, organize attack, better with his feets, score free kicks and has good vision. He doesn't cheat or bark at everyone. And this guy will push Messi play higher i believe.
With Griezmann in, messi would score more goals. But you are right he is not a winner mentality.

Also if Suarez stays and play 2nd role, he can always play with Griezmann time to time, would work big time because Griezmann can also play Messi's role.
