Players in our squad have won three or four times whatever Koeman won and they did it while being considered the best in the world, they are bigger club legends now than he ever was... Besides, players don't care about what happened 25 years ago, especially since Koeman hasn't done anything relevant as a coach...
You make it sound as if he is some kind of a bum.
Regarding a current era, our legends are only Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and Busi.
And for me, none of them has even a tiny bits of leadership or being some kind of a teacher.
I know that our fanbase is obsessed with Xavi being the new great manager, but I personally don't have too much faith in Xavi due to his:
1) somewhat shy and submissive personality
2) plus, he isn't the greatest with words
I am not a football coach, but I guess that we could say that some basic skills for top football coaches are:
1. tactical knowledge (Xavi could learn that part)
2. being a leader, a teacher, a father of players. I totally can't see Xavi in that role. The only good thing about him is that he is a legend. But for me he is not too far from Messi.
Imagine if Messi is your coach. Ok, he is an awesome player, but can you imagine him yelling, leading and cheering in tough moments? I can't.
Xavi is not much better than Messi for me in that regard.
A good coach imo should have some similar leadership skills the same as a captain of a team.
And we don't have captains and leaders for years in a current team. We only have world class TECHNICAL footballers, not leaders.
3. similar to a point no2, imo, majority of best coaches are something like Pep, Klopp.
You know that they have knowledge, but you have some fear and respect towards them as a person, not only as a footballer.
Ferguson once threw a boot into Beckham's head.
Pep is crazy and you have to listen to him.
Klopp is also crazy.
Simeone will kill your whole family if you will make a mistake.
Zidane is a tough guy also.
Then you have imo soft guys like Wenger, Sarri who are good tacticians and good "friends" of players, but they will probably never reach 100% of their potential because they are lacking that fear and respect from players.
EV falls into that category also.
Do you think that players are scared of him? Lol, no.
On the other hand, Lucho was a crazy guy. But he also couldn't do too much.
So, regarding this "total package", I don't see Xavi, Iniesta or Busi as good coaches because no one will be afraid of them.
From our former players, on paper, for me: Ronaldinho could be that guy one day (he has those leadership qualities in him), Puyol could be that guy (but he is a CB, so his build up and tactical knowledge is questionable) and Van Bommel could surely be that guy.
Cocu and Van Bronckhorst are also somewhat too nice to gain fear and respect from Barca's players.
So, when you guys are dismissing players like Koeman, then please don't mention Xavi, lol.
If Koeman is an ancient player, then our only options are those 3 mentioned above (Ronnie, Puyol, Bommel).
Players in our squad have won three or four times whatever Koeman won and they did it while being considered the best in the world
Sorry, but this is just a huge recency bias.
As if everything what other teams and players have achieved in the past is nothing compared to a mighty current era.
From a current era, only Messi, Xavi and Iniesta are true Goats on their positions. And Puyol and Alves, but they are gone.
Busi, the jury is out there and there is a huge chance that he was awesome only because he played alongside Xavi, Iniesta and Messi who masked his flaws.
Other players in our team aren't any better than our former legends.
Ronald Koeman won:
From 1985 to 1994 won 8 league titles in 10 years: 1 with Ajax, 3 with PSv and 4 in a row with Crujff's Barca.
Won Champions league with Psv in 1988 and with Barca in 1992 (being the scorer of a title winning 1:0 free kick).
Plus, on an NT level, he won Euros in 1988 with Netherlands.
8 league titles, 2 CLs, 1 CL final, 1 Euros.
Played 264 matches for Barca and scored 88 goals for Barca in his 6 years here.
For example, Neymar scored 105 goals for Barca, Ronaldinho 94, Xavi 85, Iniesta 57, Henry 49, Villa 48.
He is the highest scoring central defender of all time with 254 goal in his career.
So, from our current players, who is a bigger legend than Koeman?
Only Messi. Imo Busi and Pique are tied with him.
Suarez, Raki, Vidal, Dembele, Cou, Alba, Mats, Lenglet, Frenkie, Arthur, Semedo, Umtiti are all miles behind Koeman.
So, if our players won't listen, then they are just a bunch of spoiled, overrated and complacent brats.
Realistically, only a guy with traits of Pep or Klopp can tame our squad, someone who has the personality and the managerial/tactical skills to put his money where his mouth is... Unfortunately there is no such manager available right now...
I agree here.
And also, as said above: they install some fear as persons and are somewhat good teachers.
Xavi and co can't install fear.
Do you think that Gallardo can install fear? I don't think so, lol.
So, which coach is the closest thing to be:
1. being a legend?
2. has Barca's connections?
3. can install SOME fear?
4. has some results behind him?
** Back to Koeman:
Koeman was a free-kick and penalty-kick specialist. He is Barcelona's second-highest goalscorer from free kicks, behind only Lionel Messi, with 26 goals from set pieces in all competitions. His goal tally of 254 goals in his entire career makes him the top scoring defender in European football.
He is our 2nd best free kick taker ever.
Better than Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Neymar and all other famous players.
Btw:
Koeman scored 26 free kick goals only for Barca in his 6 years here.
While Neymar has scored 17 free kick goals in his whole career.
And a mighty CR7 (the best player of all time by some fans from a current era) has scored 13 free kick goals in his whole career, lol.
So, a recency bias is quite strong and is far from reality.
For younger fans, a video of Ronald Koeman killing goalkeepers for years with his shot, lol:
Someone should only show this video to our players and they should be scared as hell
