Gonna say it now before we see him at Betis:
Not as bad as people make him out to be
Another victim of the rotten ship at UTD.
As with countless other examples: a bad team makes a player look worse than he really is, a good team makes a player look better than he really is
I get your point, I really do, but excuses like that made for them is what allows the parasitical United players to survive. They know they can play rubbish and people will just blame the coaches, or how rotten the club is. At some point there has to be some accountability for their own performances too.
It's too easy to just absolve players of blame when a team is doing poorly. I agree that United are a joke of a club but I don't think their players are much better than they are showing. Ultimately they cannot all be a victim of the club - if the team is bad and they are all struggling, then maybe most of their players just aren't that good. I mean they have one player doing well - Amad Diallo. He's done well since Amorim trusted him. And I do think he's by far the most talented player at the club based on first touch, close control, technique. I said that when Amorim came in. Good players can still stand out. Sometimes the simplest answer is the right one.
But yes, I obviously agree that good coaching or stable environments can either enhance a player or detract from them. I just don't think the difference will be that stark in the case of these United players - I tend to think they have a lot of mediocre players. I do expect Antony to be a bit better at Betis but not significantly so.
