He's not. He signed with Sevilla.

Afa is a real mess. Corruption destroyed them. There isn't money for anything. I read the senior players had to pay for meals and hotels during copa America. And now there's a risk the u23 team won't come to the olympics, as there's no money to even feed the players. What did those crooks do...

Yeah I was reading about that meal scandal. Just icing on the cake for the players. My Chilean friend told me in the 90s Chile vowed to root out corruption from their FA and changed alot of the youth systems as well. Paid dividends that's for sure. Argentina and Brazil both have to do the same thing because both are selling their brand rather than developing it.

They systematically turned the system from the late nineties onwards to enrich themselves. As transfer values rose the lucre on offer dazzled more than a few and inflamed the greed which didn't need much encouragement.

Money coming in from international sponsors. Where has it gone ? Lucrative friendlies all over the planet. Money ends up with a few individuals.

Money from the corrupt Kirchner regime to pay for football on public TV. £250M that has disappeared. The money runs into the tens of millions. Yet we have this. The greed of a few is destroying Argentina.

Money from transferred players ending up with a few superagents and parasite shareholders without a thought or care for the development of a players career. A weak domestic league which has a ridiculous format. Coaches appointed on the basis of favouritism not ability.

Had the money been there the AFA could pay for the best coaches to take the under age teams. To fund development programs. To pay clubs for the use so to speak of their players for the age group and senior sides. To ensure maximum success for the seleccion. And that in turn would bring in more revenue. A stronger home league a better chance of success in club tournaments and a general feeling of well being in the sport.

The short sighted avarice of a few has destroyed all that. No one cares about the supporters both of the clubs and the seleccion. No one cares about the kids and the clubs themselves. Few can afford to modernize their stadia or hold onto kids so that they complete their development in Argentina ready for Europe. Not end up wasting their careers on benches or second tier competitions to make ends meet.

It's a huge mess. FIFA are not really helping by not allowing the new Argentine regime to clear this stinking corpse and send the rats to jail and locate where the money has been hidden.

The Olympics squad is a shambles. It's a sad waste of a chance of a gold medal and get some of the kids their first taste of tournament football. If the money was there as it should have been then Pochettino should be in charge of the u20, Zubeldia the u17 and Simeone of the senior team. There was buckets of it all sucked up by the disgusting parasites who continue to hang on the body of the Argentine game.

You look at the other Argentine team sports like rugby union (u20 third in the last junior WC this summer), field hockey men and women, basketball and volleyball and see what a success they are on very limited resources and what could and should have been accomplished with the football team in the past, present and future. It's very very sad.

Even if they could how will they pay for the compensation ? Beef ? It's sad that Argentina exports so many coaches in South America. All of whom have improved club and national sides while the seleccion continue to muddle along with a substandard choice because they cannot afford to pay for the best ones and the best ones know what a mess the AFA is and want to stay well clear of it. Bielsa might because he is an idealist but even he would be horrified at the mess the AFA is in.

There is no logical continuation in the selection of coaching choices at all age levels. No group looking at what needs improvement, no regional plans, no plans for goalkeeping, no plans for a national coach programme and so on.All the work that Pekerman and Tocalli did defying AFA interference has been undone. Sad very sad.

Bielsla didn't get his name for nothing.

Guy is unstable to put it mildly. That's probably the last thing Argentina need right now I guess.

Pizzi would have been a good choice.

Liked him at Valencia and thought he was harshly treated there and obviously won Copa with Chile.

Doubt he would take it though.

AS and some Argentina's papers are saying Cholo has clause in his contract if Argentina calls and that he would take the opportunity. Obviously, not now, but after this all settles. Problem is, this guy can get you to finals but as Argentina, he doesn't seem to able to win them.

Hardly his fault though, he has been very unlucky in the cl finals.

Simeone's clause at Atletico would be worth something if Argentina didn't have these problems but who would quit such a good job where you are appreciated for everything to go into the shit hole where you don't even know you'll get payed and even get bashed if you fail in any way?
