The 29 player Preliminary squad for the Copa America

GK: Dibu, Armani, Rulli
RB: Molina, Montiel
CB: Romero, Otamendi, Balerdi, Pezzella, Quarta, Lisandro
LB: Acuna, Tagliafico, Barco

CDM: Paredes, Enzo, Guido
CM: RDP, MacAllister, Lo Celso, Palacios

RW: Di Maria, Valentin Carboni
CAM: Messi, Angel Correa
LW: Garnacho, Nicolas Gonzalez
ST: Julian, Lautaro

Note:
- Biggest Omission is Dybala. Seems like his injury is really bad.
- For me, Senesi should have been in the preliminary list from the season that he had.
- No Benitez, which is weird as he was called in the squad frequently.
- Good to see Balerdi on the list. He's been great this season.
- Hopefully, Barco is in the main squad. We need to incorporate the new LB soon.

The 3 players that I could see being removed: Quarta, Carboni, and A. Correa

EDIT: from Gaston's latest tweet, it seems like 2 defenders will be out and the last player to be taken out will be a midfielder/forward. My guess it will be Balerdi, Barco and Valentin Carboni.

It seems like Dybala was not selected due to footballing reasons and not really related to injury

Rather have Dybala in the squad as he has that X factor that he could bring to team as a super sub (like Gotze WC14 final kind of impact) if there is a time where the team is trying to score a goal in the last minute. If, god forbids, Messi gets injured, there's no other player in the world that I would like to replace him than with Dybala.

If there are other attacking players who brings a lot to the table ahead of Dybala, I'd be fine with that, but the fact that both Valentin Carboni and A. Correa are ahead of him in the squad confuses me and I like both of those players. (Even Carboni ahead of Soule is a head scratcher for me)

Still trust Scaloni and I'm sure he has his reasons.

Dybala has to be in there surely? Messi shouldn’t be playing every minute of every game. Had too many injuries with Inter Miami this last year or so.

Think that’s a weird one tbh. Might backfire

They'll probably play with two pure wingers + a CF if Messi cannot play. Dybala might be a like-for-like replacement, but also a massive downgrade and not sure Scaloni want to commit to that system without the perks of what Messi brings to the team.

That's one of the reasons he should be there imo, like-for-like means no need to alter tactics significantly. Things work better with the Messi tactics. I also don't think he's as big a downgrade as he used to be when people went on about Dybala not starting, not with Messi's age now. He's had a pretty good season for an average Roma.

Tbf though I thought starting Di Maria LW was a madness in the WC final so just got to trust Scaloni.

With the very high likelihood of 3 players of Balerdi, Barco and Carboni being dropped from the squad of 29, this will probably be Scaloni's lineup

Main Lineup (Similar to the lineup vs Poland in WC22)

—-------Alvarez (24)
-------------------------Messi (37)-------------Di Maria (36)
--------------MacA (25)------------De Paul (30)
----------------------------Enzo (23)
Tagliafico (31)—Otamendi (35)—Romero (26)—Molina (26)
---------------------------Dibu (31)

Back up
—------------------------Martinez (26)
Nico (26)-------------------------------------------Garnacho (20)
—------Lo Celso (28)-------------Palacios (26)
--------------------------Paredes (30)
Acuna (32)—Licha (26)—Pezzella (33)—Montiel (27)
---------------------------Rulli (32)

(Quarta 28, Guido 30, A. Correa 29)

A very strong squad still even without Dybala and imo stronger than the WC 22 squad and much more stronger than the Copa 21 squad.

Can't wait for the start of the Copa.

Martinez and Alvarez are at the same level for me.

I chose Alvarez as although he didn't had a good season personally and looked leggy imo, he's still faster than Martinez, offers more running off the ball and versatile.

For the Olympics 2024, Julian Alvarez and Otamendi are confirmed to be going to the Olympics

Still waiting confirmation for Garnacho, Enzo Fernandez, Dibu, Barco and Valentini

If all them goes, what a squad!

-------------------------Julian
Garnacho-----------------------------------Soule
---------------Enzo-------------Equi Fernandez
-------------------------Varela
Barco--------Valentini-------Otamendi-------Nardoni
--------------------------Dibu

Depending on the squad France will have, if this team don't reach the final, I will be disappointed.

Thought Otamendi was part of the 2008 squad but he apparently wasn't, understandable he wants to have a go before retiring.

Julian going for every single trophy he can win as early as possible.
