Ozil: "I proudly look back on my three years at Madrid. I look forward to playing for Arsenal. Arsene Wenger played big part."

Özil: "Speaking to Wenger made me think about what had been missing for me, he has so much faith in me, I will give everything for Arsenal."

Great signing for Arsenal. Bit pricey and not the position they most urgently needed to strengthen, but this is one of the best midfielders in the world entering his prime.

why this talk about areas that need to strengthen? last season Arsenal had the best away record in the league defensivly and second best over all yet people keep talking about these areas. Last season arsenal won 22 matches out of 38 1-0 in the league but kept many clean sheets. Last season at times they lacked creativity hence ozil. They needed a dm flamini back up gk they got that. The only place the need to worry about is striker position they are 1 injury from playing sanogo.
wilsher - ramsey
walcott - ozil - carzola
Grioud
not to shabby imo

Ecstatic about signing Ozil! With everyone healthy Arsenal will have a great squad and surely another striker to backup/compete with Giroud will come in January.

Bac-Kos-Per-Gibbs/Monreal

Arteta-Ramsey (rotate freely with Wilshere)

Walcott-Ozil-Cazorla

Giroud

Very nice.

Reading Madrid fan forums, every single poster is really angry about losing Ozil. Some even believe he just joined Arsenal to join Barca in a couple of years

Arsenal only had the second best because United had won the league and lost a few goals at the end of the season, ie the 5-5 game at WBA.

Arsenal are also more suited playing away from home, it's at home they struggle defensively as shown against Aston Villa. Last season Arsenal conceded the most goals at home out of the top 7 and we're only 11th best overall defence at home!

Arsenal's run at the end of season seems to cover over the cracks with people especially Arsenal fans, let's not ignore many of the matches in that run in were dead rubbers for a few teams and the rest against the bottom clubs in the league last season.

Having a good defensive run against three relegated teams in Reading, QPR and Wigan, whilst teams like Swansea, Newcastle, WBA, Fulham and Man United who were on holiday attitude won't cover up the defensive errors from the first half of the season or that Arsenal badly needed to strength that position.

Arsenal have not fixed their problems from last season, have made one excellent signing and got rid of many players which was good business. However all the other clubs bar United have the potential to be stronger than they were last season IMO.

Have to congratulate Arsenal on getting Ozil. Incredible signing for you guys and I'm really glad he went to your team!

He's a great player, but Arsenal are essentially strengthening in the one place they needed to strengthen the least. They still don't have the quality CB or DM they needed.
