Arturo Vidal

I agree, I also remember Vidal very strong last season. Physically and mentally, - even this season - never stopped fighting. He is a player that surprised me with fast 1-2 pass combos within crowded zones. He has awareness, of where are other teammates and delivers passes without "stopping/turning/passing". At the same time - he is not consistent - I have also seen that passing is sometimes off/appears clumsy/Messi is frustrated about balls not delivered appropriately.

However, against the physical Roma team, I claim that we would not have gone under that easily, if worrior Vidal would have been on the field showing others respect ("when cluds say hello to heels"). :rambo: (he was not at the club back then, iirc).

good game

the midfield should be busquets OR FDJ / arthur / arturo

it gives a miuch better balance of protector / compass / box presence

absolute engine. a prime vidal in this team would be the perfect 3rd midfielder. I would even use the current one over Busquets/Rakitic.

I have said on a chat, imo, our new lineup is even worse than our lineups from the last 2 seasons.
For me, Frenkie and Arthur are still "possession-robots", players perfect to resist press, drive the ball into an attacking 3rd and recycle possession.
But none of them isn't too comfortable in the attacking third.
They can score and make an assist here and there, but they lack something for a world class level in that area.

Busi-Arthur-Frenkie trio created 0 chances against Dortmund.
And today 0 chances in the first half against Inter.
Also, defensively, we were eaten alive with those 3 in defense BOTH against Dortmund and Inter (1st half) where we could have conceded 8-10 goals in those 145 minutes and we couldn't score nor 1.

Another problem is Griezmann.
A world class player.
But for different teams, for different setups.
For me, he is a horrible LW. I would rather play both Coutinho and Dembele than him as a LW. This is how bad is he for me as a LW.
As a CF, he is not even a CF either, but a second striker, which we don't need.

Imo, main reasons for our horrible form in the beginning of the season were:
1. Griezmann as a LW
2. a new midfield which lacks a final punch in the attacking third
3. injured Messi
4. weird preseason, lots of injuries
5. RB Semedo paired with midfield who lacks a punch in the attacking third

Today, when Vidal entered, our midfield got more steel and running than with Busi.
Vidal was a connection between midfield and attack (unlike any guy in Busi-Frenkie-Arthur trio).
Also, our defense improved a lot with Vidal.
Imo, not only due to his individual skills but due to automatism and chemistry with a team.

The same happened with Dembele.
He offered pace, width, a will to dribble and try something around the box (unlike Griezz who can't do any of those).
Also, he offered more chemistry and automatism.

Basically, in the 2nd half, EV returned to his winning lineup from the last season with:
Dembele/Coutinho-Suarez-Messi
And Vidal-Arthur-Frenkie (instead of Raki).
Basically, this was a team from the last season plus Frenkie.
A totally different story than "the new Barca" with Semedo as a RB, Frenkie-Arthur-Busi midfield, Griezz in attack.

A team from the last season won't win a CL, but it can at least win La Liga and get wins like today.
A team with Griezz, RB Semedo and similar, probably won't win even La Liga and would be with 0-1-2 shots per game in a CL.

** Also, it is hard to tell whether Inter got tired or we improved a lot in the 2nd half, but once when Vidal stepped in and when we got rid of a slow Busi, Inter hadn't created a single chance in the 2nd half, while they had 5-6 clear chances in the first half.

This guy is criminally underrated. He is the perfect DM for Frankie and Artur

He is actually a perfect CAM for a Frenkie-Arthur-Vidal trio and the only guy who can offer a connection between midfield and attack (unlike anyone in Busi-Arthur-Frenkie trio).

Vidal is going to leave good memories of himself at this club. His desire just beams photons through the television screen, its very infectious.
he just makes the whole team feel like they have had a dose of energy boost pills.

valverde has used this tactic alot bringing vidal in as a sub when other teams are tired.

would vidal be as effective as a starter.

he is a game changer as a sub,

Arthur and de Jong are on pace of absolutely shattering the amount of chances Rakitic created all last season, yet you hailed the latter as some creative, attacking, Lampard-esque creative genius.

We played with a double pivot the minute Vidal came on. Never really tried that before.

Edit: yes, we played with a Busi-Raki double pivot, but it was a 4-4-2 with 4 midfielders. Today was a 4-2-1-3.

They are breaking records in a CL?
Huge zero in a CL.
La Liga is a different story.

Frenkie and Arthur could be awesome in what they are the best.
They need a 3rd, attacking guy around them.
Then they could be very good.

Well, they are both pivots.
Their best position.

Arthur is not a CAM.
And Frenkie isn't too comfortable close to a goal either.
They are both awesome when they play deep and don't need to do too much around the box.
= when they work at= bringing the ball into the opponent's half, press resistance, recycling possession, pressing.
