Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo Caio is set to become Atlético Madrid’s latest signing, after passing a medical in Madrid on Tuesday.

The 22 year-old will join on a year-long loan deal from São Paulo according to reports, with an option to buy at the end of the season for an undisclosed fee.

Caio, who is also capable at centre-back, was officially announced as a Valencia player only last week, but the move fell through due to rumoured fitness problems.

Having undergone three medical assessments with Los Che, they decided not to sign him and released a statement on Monday stating that this was due to ‘different problems with the transfer’.

Despite the youngster’s injury , reports in Brazil have suggested that he was offered a different deal upon arrival at the Mestalla that he originally agreed to, and that the two clubs failed to negotiate a payment plan.

Atleti and Sevilla had been linked before Valencia confirmed his signing, and first thing this morning, he and agent Deco were at the FREMAP hospital in Las Rozas to undertake his fourth medical of the week.

Deco works closely with Jorge Mendes and represents his agency Gestifute, fuelling speculation that the rojiblancos have taken Caio as yet another favour to the Portuguese tycoon.

In the past, we’ve seen new players frozen out by Simeone having not been brought to the club at his request, but whether the former Brazil U20 captain falls into that category remains to be seen.

right now their team looks hella imbalanced... over the top quality up front but their defense is in dire need of reinforcement

They've done the best transfer business so far out of all the clubs in europe.

Carrasco, Correa, Vietto, Martinez and probably Kranevitter for basically no outlay considering the money received for Arda, Miranda, Manduzkic and Alderwield.

Meaning they still have a lot of cash to spend on a replacement for Miranda and another full back.

So taking into consideration that plus the players in the squad they should be challenging for ALL trophies.

If they aren't competing for the title and CL then its a failure with that squad.

They'll probably sell Koke/Griezmann and get some defensive reinforcements.
They have already sold both Arda and Mandzukic ,highly doubt there will be any significant sales

They are very close from adding Aymen Abdennour according to reports .the defensive addition will come IMO

No matter, Atletico will probably bend over to Barca anyways, while keep giving us hell every match. Its just how life is.

short term madridista memory
only since simeone got the job has atletico been a struggle for rm. And we didn't win any of our 6 games against them in 13-14, while we won both clasicos that season.

Abdennour should be a quality cb.

So seems like Filipe Luis is back to Atletico on loan! Great deal.

They also bought Savic who was not really impressive, but Simeone could make him a quality defender, as he is only 24.

They bought Luis back for 800,000 less than they sold him. He suits Atleti perfectly. I'm glad they have the funds to spend and keep La Liga more competitive.
