Atletico right now look like serious contenders for all competitions next season as it stands right now.

They are having the best transfer window (on paper at the very least) in Europe right now.

If Griezmann stays (if he goes it will be for top $) they should be formidable next season as well.

If they get Luis back, and Godin's CB partner isin't a total pillock next season,

they will be fighting for CL/La Liga again IMO.

If they lose Greizmann it is a poor transfer window. You cannot lose good players, you need to add to an already good squad to become great. If another team does activate his clause though, it is best if Atletico pursue Iker Muniain, the kid has loads of experience for a 22 year old, has a ton of talent but needs a manager like Simeone to really hone his skills.

^ It depends on how much they would get for him. Let's say they get 60 or 70m euros for him, I don't think that would be necessarily bad, and may end up even benefiting them.

What will they spend it on? That is what I am saying, money is useless on the pitch. You need a player who has proven his worth and the fact that Diego Simeone now has to manage a team that lacks the same character as his league winning team is another problem for them. The players at his disposal are not as physical as before, and Greizman carried them through big time last season, you need that consistency. Diego has to incorporate Vieto and Jackson, account for losing Miranda, and his tough players are a year older and a year more tired. Their problem last season was consistency too, they go out and give top teams a run for their money then draw or lose to much lesser teams.

Getting 50 or 60m for Greizmann is big for Atletico. He is good, but not that good that couldn't be replaced. Correa is a great talent. I'm sure he's capable of doing big things for Atletico next season. With selling Greizmann Atleti can respend the money in the positions which lacks depth or aging. That's more important for them than keeping Greizmann at all costs.

So, it all depends on how successfully they spend that money, and how much that money is. So, such a move could weaken as well strengthen them. Moreover, there is no guarantee that Griezman will be as good next season as he has been this past one.

To be completely honest, I doubt the Frenchman will repeat the same performance of last season but they need consistency and proven players. Selling him and then integrating a new player is not an easy task. This is Atletico's prime, they need compounding talent that is reliable. To Griezmann's defense, he wasn't poor for Real Sociedad and just exploded at Atletico, he was good for La Real and became better at Atletico.

They are a few players short of a complete squad. They need a centre back, left back, Central midfielder and wide player.

Griezmann's an enigma. I keep reading positive reviews, but almost every time I watched him last season (much of it in the CL I must say), he's looked ponderous, made clueless runs while gettin' outpaced by Bellarabi that one time. Add to that, the excess hairbleach and gypsy tache, and he looks like a runaway clown from a circus. I say sell him and reinforce central defense and replace the outgoing Arda.
