Is it just me or does Valverde seem to have a lot less emphasis on attacking full-backs than we've come accustomed to? Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but judging by our preseason so far, it seems to hold true.

If that's the case, then I wonder why we opted for Semedo and not a more conservative defending RB.

Am I reading too much into this?

His teams def get ball quicker to front three do who then go for throat quicker than Peps side as well.

Less time for fullbacks to get forward. Seem to tuck in a bit and let Busi, Raki and Iniesta press as much as bombing on wide.

I thought Alba and Vidal were quite far up the field at times. Might seem like that way because we're actually playing like a team instead of the usual 'Pass the ball to Messi and Alves or Pass the ball to Neymar and Alba'.

Messi knows how to change his game more accordingly to the players around him.

But he hasnt had to and hasnt had much impact on Deulofeus performance tonight.

Not sure what you are trying to give credit to Messi for. He does enough good things to get credit that is warranted.

I think Valverde is using or at least trying out the Abidal-Alves deal where one sits back and the other goes forward vice versa.

Under Lucho it was a different as he relied a lot on the Fullbacks to going forward.

So far my impression:

suarez form is worrying. He wouldnt even score on an open goal. If he doesnt catch up on his old form this season will be a nightmare and that withour neymar. Messi will have to carry the whole team again.

Seems like valverde is rating vidal more than semedo. This is a bad sign because vidal defending is bad .Is semedo worse? if yes than this will be a huge problem and could mean roberto as rb again.

delo looks fine but its just a friendly and not really a tough side.

I somehow have the feeling that valverde is focusing too much on attacking and less on defending.

The system has not really changed, same roles for the players. But there is more emphasis on positioning and structure, with and without the ball. The pressing looks great already. Messi even covered for Pique once.

I think the reason he has been good so far is that we play through messi and everytime he has a chance he is giving the ball to messi, which most of the time is the right decision.

If I were Valverde, I wouldn't put much faith on Vidal at least until next year and would give the most minutes to Semedo for now. With an ankle being severely dislocated a few months ago, Vidal s now recovered but he's gonna hold back his leg for quite sometimes I believe, play at 70% at max and we need player who can give their all
