It feels as though the pre-season has been wasted. Mostly because of the Copa America I guess. No meaningful lineups were tested.
We didn't get to see FDJ-Arthur (and maybe Coutinho) combination (mini pep-barca style
) or Vidal - FDJ - Raki (maybe it would work against kamikaze running physical opponents, who knows).
Perhaps even FDJ-Alena-Sergi (not so excited about this, but still). Hell, anything new and viable would be interesting, even as a case study.
We didn't get to see Griezmann - Suarez - Messi or Dembele - Griezmann - Messi.
Or even Avengers style:

Why did Rafinha play at all? I feel for him really, but he will go, so there is no point in playing with this team.
Why did Malcom play at all? He wasn't in Valverde's plans from the start.
It's great that Carles Perez scored goals and that Puig got some minutes. Realistically they both won't see the inside of the dressing room during this season.
Just a money making preseason, from which no-one can take away anything.

Most preseason are money making, but the schedule for this preseason is atrocious having a preseason game in the USA just a week before our first La Liga game.

This preseason was unsatisfactory, sure we have seen the likes of Todibo, De Jong, Puig, and the other new signings play. But the underwhelming part is there was no new stuff in terms of tactics and formations being wheeled out.
It was basically "Play the 4-3-3 and do the same shit we have been doing for the past couple of years now with no said improvement". I don't think it would have hurt much if we put out an XI full of guys who aren't over the age of 30 instruct them to tactically press, make movements off the ball, etc like we have been dying to see.
I mean A front three of Perez-Griezman-Dembele, there's no reason for those three to be walking around hardly making runs and shit. This isn't Messi, Suarez up there, have them press and actually force them to make some good runs on and off the ball to get in position.

Can’t see him benching two of his biggest favorites against Athletic. I think it will be Raki-Busi-Frenkie next Friday.
