They play in a different team, they come to Barca it's a new team
They play in a different style, they come to Barca new style
They play in a different position, they come to Barca new position
They come to Barca new teammates, here they meet even more creative players like Messi, Neymar and so their role ends up changing completely,
They are no longer able to try and try different moves everytime because first they are not the most creative, they are the new guys, not as trusted

They will not be the ones given the ball by the team to do something,
they will be the ones to give the ball to Messi/Neymar (more creative)


So basically they end up playing nothing like what they used to be playing in the former teams,
Doing nothing like they used to do


And playing with MSN requires more defensive work for the new midfielder

Played in a different team, playing a different style of football, more direct
In his team he was among the most creative players, so he was given the authority to dribble, try make something happen etc
He shined and Barca bought him

Come to Barca, he finds that he is not as creative as MSN
He is made to play a new role as a CM
He is called upon to do more defensive work, because there are more creative players than him,
He fails in that because it is not really his specialty

For me these are enough reasons to why Coutinho, Bernardo Silva, Eriksen, Dele Alli and similar players will be a failure at Barca

The flaw in your theory if applied to Coutinho is that he's already proved beyond any doubt that he can play amazingly well with both Saurez and Neymar and Messi can link up with anyone ...

Surely we already have the natural replacement for Xavi and he could even prove to be better than Xavi in that position ...... Messi !!

It's time to move Messi back into the quarterback position and watch him thrive , he's already down as the best ever forward / striker and now he can evolve into the best ever midfielder ...

Then it's easier to find a top quality right sided forward ....

Messi cant play the Xavi role.

Xavi was non stop covering every blade of grass to try and create number overloads.

Besides that Barca need Messi as a decisive factor in the final third more than a Xavi role allows.

I agree with keeping Messi as a forward. Football is all about scoring goals and Messi is an absolute demon of a striker. He's precise finish for the classico winner sums up his striking ability.

There's no point in playing Messi in midfield if all his chances are going to be wasted by inefficient forwards. Rather have Messi close to goal where he can really destroy the opponent.

Where did i say my problem with Coutinho is him linking up with Neymar and Suarez?

You stated he ( Coutinho) would fail at Barcelona and I totally disagree , partly because he's proved that he can link up amazingly well with Neymar and Suarez ..... it seems an obvious transfer .


I also don't regard Xavi as being a good defensive midfielder !

Why are you all so confident that Coutinho can play in the midfield? IMHO he is much better as a winger but I might be wrong.
I doubt Liverpool will sell him for less than 80 mil so we better be sure he can play Iniesta's role.

Coutinho can perfectly play as a left side advanced midfielder, just like Iniesta (although Iniesta is technically superior).

And yeah, they won't let him go for 80M, that's why I said "no matter the cost". Just pay >100M and don't look back. We should stop with "edgy and hipster" signings, as I said.
