Barca Transfers and Rumors

That's the reason why we should solve the "manager problem" first and than together with this new guy Robert has to find solution for RB and CM/AM spot.

That's what I've been saying forever.

The most important signing is the coach. He will decide how we play and who to sign.

If it's a competent, high level coach then the sum will be greater then the parts. He will get the best out of lesser players too.

For me, a team that concedes 4-0 away so often (PSG, celta) and other big score lines

We need a midfield that can provide both control and defensive solidity

We don't need more players who take too many risks and turn over the ball too much
O
Coutinho, Bernardo Silva, ericksen, dele Ali all fall in that category.

I showed stats how coutinho and Silva each loses the ball twice as iniesta, and turnover the ball 4 times as Iniesta

More turnovers means we get even more counterattacks against us leaving us more exposed

That's why I prefer balance over flashiness
CMs over CAMs

Etc

To fair to those players who supposedly won't fit our team as they give the ball away easily all pale into comparison to the Barca player who gives the ball away far more than anyone else , apparently -- Messi !!

Yeah, we already have a player who doesn't take too many risks, remember that stat - Gomes has like 90% passing accuracy. Does it help defensively or offensively? You need technical players first and then you need a manager who would know how to utilize midfield and make it more compact, just adding players who don't take risks won't help.

Gomes is not a starter, first of all

Secondly Gomes "does not take too many risks" is wrong
He doesn't take any risks at all

And i am not talking about passing accuracy here

A player like say Verratti for instance has the same passing accuracy as Gomes (check whoscored stats)
But we all know Verratti is miles above Gomes

I am talking about the tendency to try impossible moves and skills which lead to being disposessed or turning the ball over
See how Denis plays for example

If you turn the ball over so much in Liverpool, Monaco
Chances are, you will turn it over even more in Barca

It's different when a midfielder loses the ball,
You lose the ball in midfield, it's lethal

Adding technical players who are well known for losing the ball often will definitely not help because they will lose the ball and now we can no longer defend the resulting counterattacks since we have replaced all the defensively astute players

Messi has earned the right to give the ball away, he is most creative player,
He is always marked by atleast three players all the time
And he is a forward

But now those players I mentioned are supposedly midfielders,
A midfielder is not supposed to give the ball away often
You give the ball away in midfield in midfield, it's an efficient counterattack for your opponent

And these guys are giving the ball away so much in lower tier teams like Monaco, Liverpool

How much more can they give away when they play for Barca with the tight marking players receive here

Even Rakitic who was 'best midfielder in la liga' before coming here was made to look technically naive here

They turn the ball often because of the style these teams play, if they are asked to make things happen in a team that plays more direct style of football than ours while they are playing as CAM/winger, of course they will lose the ball more often. It doesn't mean that they would be playing the same if they arrived at Barca.

Isn't that exactly why they shouldn't come to Barca?

They play in a different team, they come to Barca it's a new team
They play in a different style, they come to Barca new style
They play in a different position, they come to Barca new position
They come to Barca new teammates, here they meet even more creative players like Messi, Neymar and so their role ends up changing completely,
They are no longer able to try and try different moves everytime because first they are not the most creative, they are the new guys, not as trusted

They will not be the ones given the ball by the team to do something,
they will be the ones to give the ball to Messi/Neymar (more creative)

So basically they end up playing nothing like what they used to be playing in the former teams,
Doing nothing like they used to do

And playing with MSN requires more defensive work for the new midfielder

So basically from the offensive player you fell in love with to a workhorse for MSN see Rakitic

Another example is Arda, as you said
Played in a different team, playing a different style of football, more direct
In his team he was among the most creative players, so he was given the authority to dribble, try make something happen etc
He shined and Barca bought him

Come to Barca, he finds that he is not as creative as MSN
He is made to play a new role as a CM
He is called upon to do more defensive work, because there are more creative players than him,
He fails in that because it is not really his specialty
At ATM he did a little defending since he had plenty of help from Gabi, Tiago, Koke, etc while at Barca there are so many players who are exempted from defence

He ends up failing

For me these are enough reasons to why Coutinho, Bernardo Silva, Eriksen, Dele Alli and similar players will be a failure at Barca

If we limit our search for midfielders that play in teams with similar style to ours then we have very small array of clubs and most of them don't sell players at all (PSG, Bayern, City etc.).

And Arda is bad example because he came here when he was 29 years old, he wasn't playing half season, he was constantly injured and honestly he is not interested in adapting to our style while other younger players might improve here because a) they would be surrounded by top players b) they wouldn't be required to dribble past 3-4 defenders and score goals. Whoever we bring will be a risk and need to adapt, there is no way around it.

And like I said before, our defensive problems won't be solved just by bringing players who don't take risk, the system is needs to be fixed, now the team is disjointed, there are tons of space that no one can cover no matter how good they are defensively.

And who are those CMs who can arrive at Barca this summer? You see we are linked with AMs because we missed out on CMs such Gundogan, Kroos, Kovacic, Pogba, Vidal and now we are screwed because we need to search for replacement for soon to be 33 year old Iniesta and no top midfielders are available. It's one thing to want something, but reality is a bit different.

Marco Verratti has told his agent he wants to play alongside with Messi next season.[Express]

Time to come home Marco

The Express are sourcing 'Don Balon' for that story.

Literally every single day they quote a made up story from Don Balon about Barcelona. Usually who Messi has told Barca players should bought and sold.

Just made up rubbish.
