Barca Transfers and Rumors

Still see Veratti one of the top midfielders in the world. Eriksen is great but we need someone who has the power to play as CM and rotate with Busi and Raki (both will be 30 next season)
I see Kante is first option, then Veratti and Thiago

Totally unrealistic. Why would these extremely rich clubs decide to sell to us?

Arthur looks like he has the right tools from the games I have been watching. I am sure though that Valverde would prefer someone like Ander Herrera though.

Can't believe people still want Verratti after the guy signed another long term contract with QSG. He can rot there for good and regret what might have been.

In case of Thiago? He said he is looking to go back to Barcelona. I don't think they will refuse to sell if the player himself wants out. Besides, they do have Tolisso, Vidal and even James is playing now as CM for them.

Some players aren't that interested in having a great career. They prefer to get paid and be comfortable.

And he extended his contract 1 year ago. If he was looking to get back to Barca he would have a great position with only 1 year left of his first contract-extension this summer (signed 2015 until 2019). He came with a four year contract (2013-2017), extends in 2015 (until 2019) and then extends again in 2017 (until 2021). That really doesn't look like a guy who wants out, to me. Same story as Verratti: A lot of hints in the media, but no action when it really matters - that is, with the extensions.

If he fights and makes all kind of trouble I'm sure Bayern will sell for 150M, but why should they sell for 100M? If they wanted money they could sell Lewandowski for that amount and sign Werner.

I would say that both Verratti (as people has finally realized), Thiago and Kanté are waste of precious time to pursue.
I wouldn't close the door to Eriksen - Tottenham has their wage-cap, which they know are self-imposed and therefore make them lose players once and a while, so the right offer could lure them to the negotiation-table, especially if they hold on to Kane.

Btw, Verratti wouldn't even be the ideal fantasy-midfielder for us, De Bruyne would.

True. It should be Eriksen/Griezmann + Arthur.

But lately, coming to Barca means: CL quarters and some domestic titles (and even those will be questionable when Messi will be gone).
Playing for Psg lately isn't any worse than playing for Barca.
In the years post-Messi, Psg will have way higher chances to win something.

So, the days when Barca and a great career were mentioned in the same sentence are a part of a past, tbh.

Way too much doom and gloom here. Barca post-Messi will be a different club, no question. But PSG won't be better, with higher chances of winning something?
La Liga Trophy > Ligue 1 for the next 2 decades at least. That leaves us with CL - and there we have NO IDEA whatsoever who are going to be better in 5 years.
Hell, before this season everyone thought Real would rule for the next 2-3 years - flashforward, we win the league undefeated - such predictions are very risky and will most likely be wrong.

We have a history only matched by few others, Real included of course, and therefore we will always have a pull in players, also after Messi retires.

But we need to start working on post-Messi era NOW. If we don't, we might really struggle for trophies in the future. The first step towards this is to fix the midfield.

What was signing Dembélé, Arthur and even Coutinho to an extent, if is wasn't planing for the future?

Manager is key in this matter. There will be no planning for the future if the manager is mostly interested in short term success. Signing and promoting top young players is just a step, and not even the most important one.

I have a hard time imagining a more entitled fan base than this forum.

Having been a fan for the past 30 odd years, you get to accept the fact there will be highs and lows, and losing Messi will most definitely see us entering a slump of some sort. We won't do an AC Milan, though, despite plenty morons in here having predicted that ever since Pep left.

And no, we won't lose much pull when Messi retires. Hell, people have been crying about us not being able to attract attackers exactly because of Messi's dominating presence
The notion that the footballing world suddenly believes you can't make a career here anymore is god damned moronic, to put it mildly.

What does that have to do with not planing for the future in regards to fixing our midfield?

It was. But we still need to fix the midfield. Especially now, with Iniesta departing. As I said before, Messi dropping deep should be a luxury, not a rule. Right now, we only have one creative outlet in the midfield for the next season, Coutinho. We need another, in case of injury.
