These are useful players. Alaba and Wijnaldum are very good, I'm not crazy about Depay, but can see why people would want him for free.
Enrique had the same trio, but a declined version and didn't depend on it. He didn't even play that trio most of the time. Pedro was good in a certain setup determined with some of the greatest players in their positions. Of course, to an extent, it's the same with the 2015 team, but less. Maybe I took the wrong path talking about the setup being replicated. What I meant is that the more versatile teams are the models for the future.
Signing free agents is a short term solution, of course.
Maybe they could be useful in some way sometime. I'd rather see Nico than Wijnaldum, Fati than Depay, Mingueza than Alaba (and I would hate to see Alaba in the midfield, if that's where he wants to play).
The squad is pretty good, the first thing to do is to get rid of some players like the french ones.
Enrique could've played more on the midfield, but was able to neglect the best midfield of all time because he had MSN, Barcelona will find it just as hard to find a new MSN as developing a new midfield like that.
Versatility or not, I believe Barcelona should build on their proven way of playing as much as possible. And they keep delivering good players able to play well in a lot of different systems, we saw what could happen when they got to play together fully the last time.
