It's the future. In the future alot of players will prioritise money over trophies. Can't blame them. Money pays the bills and Saudi type money creates generational wealth.

Yep, and because of budget constraints we will have to adapt.

Instead of getting older players like Brozovic or Messi who prefer chose money, lower workload or more Asados, then unless we can afford to go toe-to-toe with the EPL (we can't) for 60m+ signings all the time then we will have to do one of three things

1) rely on La Masia
2) sign LaLiga proven lower quality that no one else wants, not even Saudi Arabia
3) sign prospects and bleed them in earlier than we had initially wanted

To be honest a mix of all three is fine, and there is a fourth option for old players that still have some self worth to want to play at the highest level like Gundagon.

Usually in this example Barcelona goes for 1). We got a bit lucky recently with Balde and Gavi, and not so lucky with Sergi Roberto.

So maybe things turn out alright and with a midfield 4 to support him, that Nico Gonzalez exceeds expectation and fulfills potential in that setup.

Or as alot have said, we bite the bullet and double down on that with a well scouted option like Fabricio Diaz and give him an opportunity earlier than we would have liked.

I doubt it would be Parejo, but that would be a very Xavi thing. Not want guys like Fresneda (despite having Kounde to play there) because you want players who can compete today, and then going for Parejo who is physically and skillwise worse than Busi who we couldn't compete in Europe with previously.

And saying all this useless text, we still haven't addressed any offensive creativity in the market. Fuck me. Maybe we can get Luis Enrique out of retirement.

So with no offensive wide signings anticipated, I'm pretty sure we will continue with 4 midfielders in our 11. Which does give The Gardener more flexibility of who we get for that elusive DMC/now double pivot ish spot.

Oh and we should probably have targeted an offensive rightback.

Parejo would be such a stupid move. Back when Valverde was stanning for him, people were laughing at the idea.

It's better to take a chance on a young player or an unknown.

It's crazy that bar EPL clubs and PSG, other big names have to sell players and have to keep a tight reign over their budgets.

Middle Eastern leagues will become bigger soon and start buying the young talent from South America and even Europe. I predict most of these clubs will have to start relying mostly on home grown talent as big stars will be out of their reach.

Brozović choosing Saudi Arabia while still at his peak is a worrying sign.

Apparently he didn't say yes. Clubs have agreed but he is still waiting for Barca. He would be a much better option than any other DM mentioned on this forum. IMHO the main problem is that Barca probably can't guarantee his registration at the moment.

However, I also can't understand this Saudi Arabia bullshit. He is still at his peak and he could for sure play at the highest level for another 2-3 seasons. If Barca can't sign him there are for sure other top European clubs that would be more than happy to have him. Going to Saudi Arabia at the age of 30 with EURO 2024 behind the corner would be one of the dumbest moves I have seen for a while.

That won't last for long. People in Saudi Arabia don't care for football in general. Consequently, this balloon will pop in 2-3 years max. China already started something similar few years ago and it ended up quickly.

Regarding Parejo, that would be the dumbest move we ever made. I sincerely hope that Xavi, Alemany and Deco are not THAT stupid.

Saudi pulled out of WC2030 and will all likelehood be going for 2034.

That gives this financial football diarrhea 14 years atleast. It's here to stay.

What? They have had the strongest league in middle east and one of the biggest fanbase here too, way too many passionate fans.
Only Egyptian league was rivaling them, and that was when fans here were actually able to attend games. Now Saudi league have many fans from other countries in the region and by now I mean last 3 years and not just after those big signings.
You couldn't be further from the truth mate

TalkSport reporting …

Ilkay Gundogan says it has been a "total privilege and pleasure" to play for Manchester City after joining Barcelona on a free transfer.

Gundogan was offered a new deal by City but will instead move to the Spanish champions on a two-year deal, with the option to extend for another year.
The 32-year-old's contract with City expires at the end of June.

"Manchester has been my home and I have felt part of a very special family at City," the Germany midfielder said.

Gundogan played 51 games in 2022-23, scoring 11 goals, as he played a key role in City winning the Treble.

He scored six goals in his final seven games - including a double in the FA Cup final win over Manchester United.

Gundogan's contract with Barcelona has a buyout clause of 400m euros.

We always make one comical signing per season so it looks like the chosen one this year is Parejo. Slow, Spanish, weak, he ticks all our boxes to be fair. Will probably end up a net negative, just like with Alonso where he played some games that Balde should have been playing.

If they are that desperate why not give Nico a chance, move Christensen up, or take a punt on the Diaz guy. Neither option is ideal, but surely can't be worse.

Xavi wants experience. He wouldn't give a young Xavi a chance. Would say he is too small, tubby and thinks he knows it all.

Saudi Arabia is very different from China or any other countries though. In China's case, it was more about politics, the owners of the football clubs rallying under the flag and trying to gain favors, and as soon as the top lost interest the flame died down, despite huge interest in the sport from the general public. In Saudi Arabia's case, I think it is part of the grand effort of the country trying to make a name for itself to the world and it is not a short-term stint but a long-term project. Plus Saudi Arabia has money to invest that few others, certainly not China can rival.

That said, I don't see the Saudi league becoming anything of a challenge to the top European leagues for talents. The biggest and brightest talents around the world will continue to prefer Europe.

Why not look at Hjulmand? 1 year left on contract. Captain. Just turned 24 and a classic destroyer type who was top 1% in interceptions according to fbref. Cheap young with decent experience.
