With Bayern and Man Utd in hunt for CBs this summer as well, It'd be better for us if we move quickly and end it soon instead of dragging it on and ending up battling against other clubs for a player or two.

This is going very slow at the moment just like every year, we had Zubi with his 'We need Barca profile CB, not many out there, very difficult' like every year and we even got Puyol saying that there are not many CBs better than Bartra and Mascherano.

It's like it's scripted, the same words, the same target who is impossible to get, the same slow summer. The difference this time is that we most likely will get one and that could well be one panic buy at the end who most likely would not be good enough all alone, especially if we face a transfer embargo next summer.

But hey! we will still a new stadium, with new shiny VIP boxes/seats. That's cool.

Can't add anything else, but i was just stating that things can go fast when the board actually wants to sign a target.

When they really do, as seen with suarez, it doesn't take centuries to have a deal done.

That's why i believe they are not chasing CBs seriously. If they really wanted to sign Mathieu, it would already be a done deal.

It's like Marquinhos last year. Lots of noises. Tons of news. In the end Marquinhos revealed that Roma and his agent never got a single phone call to bid on him from Barcelona.

For reasons i don't know, they are not serious about it. Feels like they are waiting. Waiting what? I don't know.

Well you know as they say Attack is the best defense. The defense doesn't matter if we can outscore the opponent :rosell: :zubi:

That's because many teams will go for players who played in the World Cup. Unless we do the same, go for CBs who played in the WC, it's not gonna change anything for us.

World Cup slows transfers even for players not playing there. Torunament sucks too much of the attention and focus. Things will heat up afterwards.

About the fullbacks, the RB scene looks really dry right now, if it were me, I'd get rid of Alves and go instead for a stud LB like Ricardo Rodriguez. Dude is a defensive wall at LB and only 21 years old. He will only get better.

Go into the season with Rodriguez and Alba at LB, rotating defense and offense as the team needs. Adriano and Montoya at RB. Then in the future you re-evaluate the RB market and hopefully there are more options out there.

You state is as a fact that it doesn't take so long to sign a defender and that they are not serious about it.

BS to say this 6 days after the window opened. You don't know ANYTHING which happens between clubs, at least you don't know as much details as
required to assume such things.

I'm totally fine with negotiating. You said that Mathieu would already be here, if Barca was serious. Maybe but he would be here for 20m and everyone would freak out. It's too early and your (and ours as well) knowledge of what actually happens is too small to assume something like this.
They promised us CB's and they know that they would be killed, if No CB arrived.

Stay calm.

I admire that you are so calm.

As pointed by DonaK above, it follows the same pattern as last year with the same type of comments from the board.

Anyways, as i said above, the day when they will go for it, I think it'll be like suarez, a deal with happen without having to wait for ages.

I was a out of the loop for transfer rumors lately and it comes as a big surprise that Barca is going to buy Suarez. Isn't this kind of thing against club's policy? I mean, involving career assholes/mentally unstable into the team. And he will not be available for first half of the season to boot.

Career assholes? What do you call Etoo, Van Bommel, Romario, Stoichkov, etc.?

To be fair when we had those guys I didn't had to hear the Barca president saying the world values 100 times a month..and we didn't had Pique saying that we didn't spend as much as Real Madrid when we lose in all the competitions.

The words might be the same but the situation is entirely different.

1. We've won the La Liga with 15 points advantage ahead of Real last year

2. We advanced to the CL semi-finals last year

3. Puyol didn't announce his retirement last year

4. The situation of the board is even worse than last year (Neymar-saga, transfer ban etc.)

5. We've won nothing this season

6. We have an ambitious and determined coach

Bolded the only reason I believe this mercato might end well.

2 months to go on the transfer market and people are already going insane. We bought 3 players already and closing in on a 4th, plus 2 very talented players are returning after loans. Real Madrid, by the way, haven't bought anyone so far and their squad is far from perfect. Anyone comparing this to the situation last year where we only bought 1 single player is nuts. We won't start the season with only 2 CB's, Lucho would never accept that.

+1, no need to be mad. If only 2 weeks left and still no CB then it is time to worry

The thing that I dont understand about Zubi and Lucho's plans is that we've done well in addressing most of our squads needs without addressing what is obviously what is the biggest, most glaring deficincy with our current squad. The Suarez rumors started in earnest roughly at the beginning of last week and within a week, it went from rumor to practically a done deal. MaTS, Rakitic, Bravo were all solid signings that were done quickly and for the life of me I don't understand why we are shuffling our feet on getting a CB.

I just think its a joke that a majority of people on here can recognize defensive players who could really do well here yet the board either isn't willing to pay for them or don't view them as "Barca material," whatever the fuck that means nowadays. Benatia is a prime example, wasn't his agent in Barcelona before the WC started to start the negotiations for him? And he is too expensive but we are willing to pay 50 million for a player who a) won't come to us b) is not getting any younger and c) isn't necessarily any better than any of the less profile players? For the amount we are throwing at PSG for Marcos and now Silva, a single bid of that nature for Benatia, Mangala, or Vertonghen and it'd be a done deal. Its illogical and what is really frustrating is that we can sign quality players like R. Rodriguez or Aurier now and address a problem that we will have in our squad but won't be able to deal with because of the transfer ban (Alves is getting too old to do what we want him to do).

These are reactive and not proactive moves from the board and had we been more proactive a few summers earlier, we could have all of the players we wanted now. I'm gonna be sick if two years from now once Aurier moves to a big club we decide he would be a good fit and start pursuing him and we have to pay 3x the amount we would pay for him now. The incompetence of this board is truly amazing to me.

Dude, the mercato isn't over by tommorow. There is enough time to buy 10 defenders. I agreed with you if we were only a week from the end of the mercato, but we're not. Chill out.
