Dude, the mercato isn't over by tommorow. There is enough time to buy 10 defenders. I agreed with you if we were only a week from the end of the mercato, but we're not. Chill out.

Given the results of the past few transfer windows you should forgive people for not being so calm at this point.

I'd be worried too, except that I decided not to get worked up.

People here act like it was so easy to buy a player.

I couldn't care less if we sign Suarez after a CB or the other way around. Damn, maybe the clubs don't want to negotiate at this point or we are currently negotiating the prices and the installments or whatever.

But it's too difficult to think about the negotiations. It's much easier to say that the selling club asks for a certain price and we pay it, no matter what. Of course we negotiate and of course we want to reduce the fee, where do you people live? Sometimes it takes time to agree on a deal. It's business and nothing else.

So at the end of the summer when all of the best options for our squad are picked up already because we thought we could convince PSG to sell TS only for them to tell us no for the thousandth time, can I repost this then?

It just sounds like two summers ago all over again when we were going after TS but got fucking Song instead and said, "we can convert him into a CB, no problem..." :zubi:

Its like this board and now apparently people on this forum never learn.

We have ZERO bargaining power when talking about a CB because everyone knows how bad we need someone and stand firm on their top dollar price evaluations and that is why we are at the point now to where we literally have to pay whatever the selling club asks. All of the players we are linked to and most importantly all of the players who can actually make an positive impact on this squad (aka they are as good or better than Pique and Bartra) will all cost roughly the same amount and there is no use trying to negotiate the price lower when teams like Bayern, UTD, Chelsea and City are all trying to buy the same players we are.

This isn't like Rakitic or even Suarez, there wasn't any true competition to sign these players and it also wasn't a must have signing for us. That gives us room to negotiate and try and reduce the fee because something is better than nothing for a player who wants to leave. We aren't in that situation for CBs however and it is ill advised for us to try and negotiate them down in their asking price.

For as proactive as we have been in signing Suarez and being willing to pay whatever they ask, we should be doing the same for a player like Benatia or Mangala, especially since they are much more important to the health of this squad than Suarez. If we took the same pragmatic approach in signing Suarez and used it on a truly world-class CB, we could have the deal done within a week. That's what I'm saying and that's why I am so frustrated with this board.

So we let go Lexi to get Suarez instead? Barca has the worst management of any big club.

Why exactly is that the worst? We lose a great winger for what we actually need which is a predatory instinctive striker how is also unselfish! this beats the Ibrahim for Eto deal by miles!

The thing that I dont understand about Zubi and Lucho's plans is that we've done well in addressing most of our squads needs without addressing what is obviously what is the biggest, most glaring deficincy with our current squad. The Suarez rumors started in earnest roughly at the beginning of last week and within a week, it went from rumor to practically a done deal. MaTS, Rakitic, Bravo were all solid signings that were done quickly and for the life of me I don't understand why we are shuffling our feet on getting a CB.

I just think its a joke that a majority of people on here can recognize defensive players who could really do well here yet the board either isn't willing to pay for them or don't view them as "Barca material," whatever the fuck that means nowadays. Benatia is a prime example, wasn't his agent in Barcelona before the WC started to start the negotiations for him? And he is too expensive but we are willing to pay 50 million for a player who a) won't come to us b) is not getting any younger and c) isn't necessarily any better than any of the less profile players? For the amount we are throwing at PSG for Marcos and now Silva, a single bid of that nature for Benatia, Mangala, or Vertonghen and it'd be a done deal. Its illogical and what is really frustrating is that we can sign quality players like R. Rodriguez or Aurier now and address a problem that we will have in our squad but won't be able to deal with because of the transfer ban (Alves is getting too old to do what we want him to do).

These are reactive and not proactive moves from the board and had we been more proactive a few summers earlier, we could have all of the players we wanted now. I'm gonna be sick if two years from now once Aurier moves to a big club we decide he would be a good fit and start pursuing him and we have to pay 3x the amount we would pay for him now. The incompetence of this board is truly amazing to me.

I hear you man.We should have given 50m or 40 m to benatia in the first place when we knew he was much better than marquinhos who will be this much or even more.

I wouldn't pay 50M or 40M for Benatia, what exactly has he done or accomplished to be worth so much? Those fees are for the Silva and Hummels, etc.

And they won't come. And we desperately need a CB.So thats our only choice.Everyone knows how much we need a Cb and every club will ask much more for their Cb's.The best we can do is to give 40 or 50 m to the best possible realistic target for us and that is just one man at the moment.MEHDI BENATIA.

Benatia ATM is heads and shoulders above Hummels and TS. Whats funny to me is a lot of you here said David Luiz was crap. . . Funny how he is currently the best CB arguably at the WC.
