Guys, big articles today about the CB situation from the two catalan newspapers.

From SPORT

  • - Today title: "PSG does not sell Marquinhos"
  • - Barcelona wants to sign PSG's CB Marquinhos, as asked by Luis Enrique, but PSG is not even willing to negociate with barcelona.
  • - This week will see the final attempt of Barcelona in trying to sign Marquinhos.
  • - Unlike other targets, according to Luis Enrique, Marquinhos has everything Barcelona wants from a CB: speed, good in the air, good technique with the ball.
  • - Barcelona is willing to do anything to sign him.
  • - But SPORT anticipates what will happen. Barcelona will end up in deaf ears since PSG refuses to sell its player that is destined to be the successor of TS at PSG and in Brazil national team.
  • - Nasser Al Khelaifi, PSG President, has no intention to meet with Barcelona representatives.
  • - Nasser is especially against meeting them if it's to talk about selling PSG players to them.
  • - Raul Sanllehi met with PSG's executives three weeks ago and both parties agreed at the time to meet again after the world cup.
  • - But since then, the parisian club cut all discussions and plans to stand Barcelona up while in the meantime firmly said to its player that he will stay at PSG.
  • - According to SPORT sources, the resolution of the french club is beyind question: Marquinhos is not for sale.
  • - Barcelona is not anticipating anything else than a minimum discussion to their last attempt coming this week.
  • - If it fails, Barcelona is gonna ask if Mats Hummels or Joao Miranda are available.

From MD:

  • - It will be very difficult to snatch Marquinhos from PSG.
  • - Barcelona will restart talks with Hummels and Vertonghen in case the "operation marquinhos" fails.
  • - Barcelona reopened contacts with CBs from their shortlist and informed their respective clubs that they are real possibilities
  • - Luis Enrique is dead set on marquinhos and Mathieu.
  • - But yet, Barcelona is anticipating that these deals might fail.
  • - Laurent Blanc is blocking any negociations for Marquinhos MD has learned.
  • - Barcelona is exasperated by the behaviors of Valencia who refuses to negociate Mathieu's fee.
  • - Valencia continues to ask for the exorbitant price of Mathieu's release clause.
  • - They say they learned Mats Hummels will not leave BvB under 25M euros ( ya sure only 25M for the current best CB in the world. What bullshit)
  • - Jan Vertonghen recieved many offers. His agent Mustapha Naklino is in contact with Barcelona and some other clubs.
  • - Barcelona also started discussions with the agent of Fabian Schär.
  • - Finally, MD announces Benatia could be a new objective since yesterday there was a rumor about it but player's representatives denied it.

Mathieu's not worth more than 15m. If he manages to push his way out, great. If not, don't go over 15m. He's 31 and he isn't that good.

tbf he turned 30 a week ago.

But you're right nonetheless.

Edit: oh, I've been mistaken. He'll turn 31 in October

Valencia is just resisting and playing hard to get. He does not want to play for your club anymore understand that please. Keeping a player against their wish is not good but if I think in Valencia perspective it is correct, why should sell a player if i dont want to sell. But we are in barca perspective and what they are doing is ugly.

No it's not ugly. There a release clause of 20M. If barcelona really wants him then they have to pay. Valencia has no reason to lower its price.

Great, so it's looking like we'll chase Marquinhos and/or Hummels all summer while completely ignoring an easier target in Benatia... and end up with no one but Mathieu for a bargain price of 20m + tax. Just great.

Roma probably priced him out. Weren't they asking like 60M for him? I can see why clubs dropped interest in him..

Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu (30) didn't train this morning. A deal on his transfer to Barcelona could be close. [superdeporte]

Mathieu+Hummels and I'd call the window a success.

yeah in Valencia perspective maybe, it is not good to keep a player against his wish. It is not like he is asking to let him go for him. Sevilla accepted 18M bid for Rakitic but what is the problem with Valencia have no respect for the player who played for more than 4 seasons. But whatever they can stick with buyout clause and there is nothing wrong but it just does not look good from outside keeping a player against his will. At least psg can offer money what can Valencia offer him?! They can stick with that 20M buyout, barca should look for other alternatives then they might get down even if then thru dont get down we can easily forget about him he is no hummels.

Stop your fanboy perpective bullshits plz.

Mathieu signed a contract you know and as far as we know, he can read, he has lawyers, and agents, so he knew about the release clause. It's not a question of respect here. There's a release clause, that's all. After that it's to the club to see if they are willing to sell under it or not, but it's has nothing to do with respect to refuse it.

You just want valencia to comply with what barcelona wants as if barcelona had any authority. It's not like that that it works and you know it.

If he signed a contract then it is the right thing to do. Then it is barca fault to think they will sell him. Signing a contract and pushing a move is not good from player.

He renewed last year,if staying in Valencia is against his wish then he has only himself to blame

Bartomeu (president): "We will sign one or two defenders. And Xavi will decide what he wants."

Bartomeu (president): "Biting incident lowered Suarez fee? Don't know. Talks with Liverpool went well and we agreed correct price for both."
